It was announced on Thursday that OJ Simpson had died

Caitlyn Jenner has defended her controversial post about the death of OJ Simpson, following backlash from followers online.

At the time, he added: “So I had to do the whole chemo thing. I’m over the chemo... I’m healthy now. It looks like I beat it - I’m happy about that.”

However, his family confirmed this week that he had passed away.

"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer," the statement said.

"He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."

Following his death, Caitlyn Jenner - whose ex-wife Kris Jenner is the ex of Simpson's attorney and friend Robert Kardashian - took to X where she penned: "Good Riddance #OJSimpson."

After the post was shared, some social media users commented on the post, pointing out how Jenner had been involved in a car accident in 2015, in which a woman died.

"Rest in peace to Kim Howe, the woman killed in a multi-car crash caused by Caitlyn Jenner," one wrote.

While another said: "I'm sure the family of that person you ran over, can't WAIT to say the same about you!"

But in response, Jenner said: "I know you all think it’s cute to compare a fatal car accident (with multiple vehicles involved) to a BRUTAL MURDER...

"But Remember… OJ said something to the effect of… I could kill her (Nicole) and get away with it bc I’m #OJSimpson."

Many defended Jenner, with one adding: "How can you compare a car accident to a murder? Haters all of them."

Caitlyn was married to Kris Jenner when, in 1994, Simpson found himself to be a suspect in the deaths of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman.

The pair were both brutally stabbed to death outside Nicole's home in California, and a few days after the murders, police announced their intention to arrest Simpson, who had been married to Nicole from 1985 to 1992.

Millions of people tuned in to their televisions as Simpson was filmed fleeing from the police in his white Ford Bronco, carrying his passport and a disguise.

He eventually gave up and handed himself in.

He appeared in court in what was described as 'the trial of the century', where prosecutors presented evidence including blood, hair and fibres found in Simpson's car.

They also pointed to bloody shoe prints found at the crime scene outside Nicole's home, which they argued matched those of shoes owned by Simpson.

In response, Simpson's lawyers argued the had been framed.

Kris Jenner was Nicole's best friend, meanwhile her ex-husband, Robert Kardashian, represented Simpson during the murder trial.

The trial spanned a total of 11 months, from November 1994 to October 1995. After deliberating for three hours, Simpson was ultimately acquitted.

The murders remain unsolved.
