Pregnant woman shot dead after driving past teen party in 'senseless' case of mistaken identity

Kerisha Johnson was due to give birth in a few days and now her and her unborn baby are dead.

A woman who was nine months pregnant has been shot dead in a tragic case of mistaken identity.

Police say Kerisha Johnson was driving towards a party in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, when 'several individuals' opened fire on her car.

6ABC says the woman was attacked before she was about to pull up to the party to pick someone up.

According to ABC News, the party was being promoted as an Easter event and had loads of teenagers there.

Kerisha was hit by the spray of bullets and was found dead inside her car by cops who responded to the incident.

Tragically, the 36-year-old was due to give birth in a few days and the unborn baby also died in the shooting.

Authorities believe the gunmen targeted Ms Johnson's car because it was a white sedan and a similar vehicle had driven past the party earlier and fired several shots into the air.

Three 19-year-olds have been arrested, Marques Porch, Gregory Parker and Derrick Curry.

They have been charged with second-degree murder and first-degree feticide.

The warrant for their arrest states the trio was captured on video firing at the victim's car.

"They all stated that they believed the white car was a vehicle from earlier in the night where [an] occupant had fired a round into the air as it drove past the teen party," the warrant added.

ABC News says Porch admitted to providing weapons used in the shooting to the other two accused gunmen.

They're currently being held in jail at the moment without bond.

A longtime friend of Kerisha has told local US media of her heartache are hearing the news.

Deanna Williams revealed WBRZ: "It was senseless. It was senseless. And just to know that she lost her life behind, nothing, you know, she was an innocent person. And It's... I can't.

"She was the goofiest friend, very sweet person. She'll give you the shirt off her back. She was just that sweet. Those memories will never be forgotten."

Bobby Hardnett, who works next door to where the shooting took place, added: "By being a mother and a child, it's just kind of like too much of that going on in the city right now, with the women and the children.

"We got to wake up on this here.

"These guys got all of these issues and things going on. They need to find different ways or better ways to handle their anger."
