Mom-of-three in tears after stranger pays for her food shop

"I thought she was going to shout at me"

A mom-of-three has spoken out after a stranger paid for her family's food shop for the week.

As the cost of living crisis rages on, it's getting more and more difficult for people to support themselves and for parents to feed their kids.

And one TikToker ended up making it to the checkout at a supermarket only to realise she didn't have enough money for her family's weekly food shop.

Thankfully, someone was there to come to the rescue. Prepare to believe in humankind a bit more again:

TikToker Beth - who goes by the username @boowitchy - took to the platform earlier this year to share a story about an experience she had in Lidl which left her in tears.

She says: "I've literally gone home to cry. I was doing a food shop today. And this is all we've got, for a family of four for the week.

"And I got to the till and I didn't have enough [...] and there were people staring at me.

"And I was trying to decide what we need more than something else."

The weekly food shop came to £41.65.

Rather than having to put some items back on the shelf or abandon them at the til, a kind stranger came forward and 'paid the extra' on Beth's shopping.

Not only that, but they then asked to have 'a word' with the mom outside.

The mom notes: "I thought she was going to shout at me or call me names. I thought she was going to be really horrible to me."

However, instead of berating her for not having enough money for her shopping, the stranger offered the mom even more money to see her 'through the week,' as well as a pep talk.

"She reminded that just because I'm struggling at the moment, doesn't mean I'm a bad mum.

"And that there is people out there who have gone through the same thing and can relate. There are so many people out there who have gone through what I've gone through today," Beth recalls.

The stranger even gave Beth a pep talk.

People are flooding to the post in support of Boo and in praise of the kind stranger, many sharing their own similar experiences.

One TikTok user wrote: "Please NEVER ever think your a bad mum for struggling. You are doing your best for your family & that is all you can do."

"I know this too week, I have to make £20 stretch for me and my son every week. I go without so he doesn't, you're a great mum doing her best x," another added.

And a third said: "That lady was there for a reason, I guarantee your chance will come along to be that Lady."

And really showcasing the power the internet holds to do good, who should reply to Beth's post but the kind stranger from Lidl.

The user wrote: "Hi Beth. Hope you and your family are all well. It's Bonnie from Lidl xx."

Beth replied: "Hey xx so glad you have seen this it was made for you xxx."

Bonnie responded: "Hope you and your family are all ok xx broke my heart seeing you cry."

And this is why you should cling onto the hope there are still some amazing, kind and caring people out there in the world.
