Server sparks uproar after revealing she earned $600 in tips but could only keep $250

A restaurant worker has taken to social media to complain about the tipping system at her establishment

A food and beverage worker has caused uproar after she revealed how much money she took away from her job.

The gratuity conversation is often a tricky topic to navigate as in the US, tips do generally make up a large part of a workers’ pay.

Most large restaurants in the States include a discretionary service charge and it’s usually customary to tip your server around 20 percent for their help.

However, waiters are often required to pool their earnings and pay out a portion of their score to bartenders, hostesses, and sometimes even chefs.

Naturally, it’s pretty annoying to work hard and earn so much money just to come out with less - which is exactly what happened to one TikTok user.

Brianna Haskell has recently gone viral after she shared how much money she came out with after sharing her moolah.

Taking to the platform on December 7, she posted a video to her 461 followers which featured the overlay text: “Server problems: When you put $600 in the tip pool to only make $250.”

The post has sparked a frenzy and has seen over 200 TikTok users heading to the comments section to have their say.

In reply, one user wrote: “One time I made $5k & someone made $200 & we had to split ….. I wish I was lying.”

A second said: “Tip pooling only works in tiny restaurants where everyone truly works together. I had this at ONE resto in my 20 years in the industry.”

“No bc why am I sharing my tips with people who hide from their tables. Like no I’m not pooling,” asked a third.

In reply, Brianna wrote: “I’m never doing it again lol was a cuteeee little idea from mgmt at my restaurant.”

Another TikTok user typed: “Ban tip pools immediately.”

The social media star has also replied to this sentiment, writing: “There’s very rare scenarios it works in- I personally am too old school, and not a fan lol. If I get a 50% tip imma need that in my pocket.”

Another claimed: “Worst thing is when supevisors (sic) pay themselves out of pool.”

TikTok users debated whether the 'pooling' system worked.

Last year a Domino’s worker went viral after she revealed how much she earned by delivering pizzas for the chain.

Like Brianna, she also took to TikTok to deliver the candid conversation.

Allison (@allison_green0) revealed that she had delivered 11 pizzas to different households and had received a variety of tips during her shift.

With her first order of the night, Allison was tipped $3.83 by the customer after he gave her $50 and told her to keep the change.

She received no gratuity for the second pizza delivery, and in total earned $13 $42.29 in credit card tips, averaging at $5.03 a tip per delivery.

After calculating the amount, Allison said: "It’s not terrible for a Monday, but it could be better - but it’s not terrible!”

At the time, one TikTok user said they ‘couldn’t believe’ that people hadn’t tipped the content creator for their dinner.

A second said: “If I can’t tip the bill or so very close to it, then I’m not going out to eat or ordering in. TIP YOUR DELIVERY DRIVERS AND SERVERS!!!!!!”
