Trump gives his true opinion on Elon Musk now following public feud

The U.S. president and the tech billionaire were once friends before their relationship hit a rough patch

Donald Trump was asked about Elon Musk and in a recent interview in which he shared his honest opinion.

Musk publicly and financially endorsed the Republican during his 2024 Presidential Election campaign, later being appointed to head DOGE, tasked with curbing government spending and addressing the United States' multi-trillion-dollar debt.

In December 2024, the Tesla CEO left the Trump administration and relinquished his role as the guiding force behind DOGE.

However, the former pals found themselves embroiled in various public feuds, with Trump admitting he was ‘disappointed’ with Musk’s behavior.

The feud was triggered by the announcement of Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' where he said would extend significant tax cuts, exemptions, and spending adjustments. But Musk was not happy about it and slammed the proposed legislation as a 'disgusting abomination', claiming it would undermine all of the work he did at DOGE.

But things really took a turn when Musk went on to allege that Trump is named in the Jeffrey Epstein files. But all of Musk's tweets on the subject were soon deleted in what appeared to mark a major U-turn in the pair's very public clash.

Trump and Musk appear to be patching up their friendship. In October, Trump claimed the pair were now on speaking terms after their various spats.

Musk also explained to Joe Rogan in November that, while Trump isn’t ‘perfect’, he isn’t as ‘evil’ as he is made out to be.

And now the U.S. president and the tech billionaire have shared a meal, with SpaceX CEO claiming it was apparently sign of positive things to come for everyone in 2026.

While answering questions on board Air Force One on Sunday (Jan. 4) after Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro was captured, Trump shared an update on his current feelings toward Musk.

“Elon's great,” he gushed, before adding: “He's 80% super genius and 20% he makes mistakes, but he's a good guy. He's a well meaning person."

Musk posted a picture of their reunion on his social media platform X on Sunday, writing: “Had a lovely dinner last night with @ POTUS and @ FLOTUS.”

The post contains a picture of Trump, Musk, and first lady Melania Trump sitting at a dinner table together.

“2026 is going to be amazing!” the Tesla CEO said.

The photo was taken on Saturday evening at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Fox News reports, which is also where Trump hosted Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy last month for peace talks regarding the war with Russia.

The meeting came after Trump and Zelenskyy were filmed arguing during a meeting at the White House in February 2025.
