Lil Nas X appears to have broken the rules of the Met Gala last night by taking selfies with other celebrities inside the venue.

The appeal of the Met Gala is a bit difficult to pin down – ostensibly it’s a charity event, but it seems to be more about celebrities getting dressed up in vaguely ridiculous costumes and having a lavish party.

Fair play to them – have a nice time - but it’s all a bit tawdry and out of touch, particularly with things the way they are for nearly everyone else at the minute, isn’t it?

That aside, people still seem to enjoy looking at the creations that the celebrities wear on the big night, as they seem to push the boat out even further each year.

However, there are also rules at these things.

There’s ones that are pretty self-explanatory, such as the exclusion of anyone under 18, as well as no smoking within the venue.

The seating arrangements are also pretty strict as well, with a careful plan in place to keep all the high-profile and – possibly – high maintenance stars together or apart as their situation dictates.

As well as those rules, there are some other reported laws in place, set down by fashion icon, Anna Wintour and her team, who have chaired or co-chaired the event since 1995, although with the exception of 1996.

Amongst those rules – allegedly – are the exclusion of certain foodstuffs that could cause smelly breath, or foods that could get onto expensive garments and damage them.

Selfies are allegedly against the rules.

Lil Nas X, known for his penchant for outlandish looks, seemed to break a key rule on a number of occasions at this year’s event by taking selfies.

You might imagine that there would be some attendees who would want to show off on their social media accounts, either for clout, to prove that they merited an invite, or to flog some product or other, but it has been claimed since 2015 that selfies and social media are prohibited once inside the venue.

A notice to guests apparently read: “The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala.”

Despite that, guests have flouted the rules in the past, notably Kylie Jenner, who shared a massive bathroom selfie in 2017.

Nas X had a pic with Naomi Campbell, Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, and Kim Kardashian, amongst others as well as sharing a number of other snaps from within the museum that hosts the swanky event.

It's unlikely that Nas will get in any trouble for his antics.

Still, it’s unlikely that anything will actually happen to him because of these infringements.

After all, rules are there to be broken.

That counts for double in the world of fashion, surely?
