GTA VI confirmed to be unplayable for millions of people at launch

Rockstar Games shared details of GTA VI's release after dropping the trailer

After an entire decade of waiting and wondering, Grand Theft Auto VI is now so close you can almost smell the burning rubber. But not everyone will be able to play the game straight away.

I know, it's not the news you want to hear just as the hype is reaching an all-time high, but don't shoot the messenger.

It all kicked off yesterday (December 4), when Rockstar Games decided to drop the trailer for the highly-anticipated new game one day early following a leak.

The trailer has left fans brimming with excitement and picking out every little detail, with the countdown officially on as Rockstar confirmed a 2025 release.

Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, said in a press release: "Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.

"We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”

Sounds exciting, right?

GTA fans have been waiting a decade for the new game.

Well, that same press release actually indicates that Houser probably shouldn't be playing it so fast and loose with the word 'everywhere'.

The release confirmed that GTA VI would only arrive on certain consoles when it first launches, meaning any households without those particular devices will be left out.

ALLEGED ROCKSTAR EMPLOYEE APPEARED TO LEAK GTA 6 STORYLINE MONTHS AGO

It reads: "Rockstar Games, a publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc., is proud to announce that Grand Theft Auto VI is coming to PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X | S games and entertainment systems in 2025."

This revelation means the game will be a next-gen console only title, making it unavailable on Xbox One and PS4 at launch.

On top of that, there's no mention at all of whether GTA VI will be coming to PC, suggesting Rockstar will skip over that particular platform at launch.

The news has sparked backlash among some fans of the game, with one X user claiming that 'skipping PC is a crime'.

Another even went as far as wishing some bad karma on the game if it doesn't come to PC soon, writing: "If Gta vi isn't on PC within the first month of release, I hope it ends up being a complete s**tter awful game. 100% praying on its downfall in that case."

I'm not sure many people will join in that hope, especially with the game likely to come to more consoles at a later date, but at least it shows that people are passionate!
