Donald Trump’s plan to bring an end to the Gaza conflict has officially earned the backing of the UN, following a vote on Monday.

The US-backed resolution to end the Gaza war and deploy an international stabilization force originated from a 20-page peace plan proposed by the president that would bring an end to what Ambassador Mike Waltz dubbed ‘hell on Earth.’

Speaking to the UN Security Council, Waltz described Gaza as ‘a hell on earth’ after two years of conflict, before arguing that the proposed resolution would offer a chance to replace 'rubble where schools once stood' with 'a path to peace'.

The resolution passed with 14 – 0, with just two abstentions from the vote, including Russia.

The proposed peace plan was developed in collaboration with multiple nations, including Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Pakistan, and Indonesia.

It aims to form a multinational stabilization force to secure Gaza, oversee demilitarization and protect civilians as Israel gradually withdraws from the contested territory.

According to the proposals, many of the intended peacekeepers will come from Muslim majority nations such as Indonesia and Azerbaijan.

In his speech to the UN, Waltz praised Jared Kushner and special envoy Steve Witkoff for their part in the deal, while drawing particular attention to negotiating a ceasefire and the return of 45 hostages by Hamas.

He also reaffirmed the US commitment to brokering peace, as he added: "This resolution charts a path for Palestinian self-determination after the Palestinian Authority completes key reforms.

“It dismantles Hamas’s grip and ensures Gaza rises free from terror’s shadow — prosperous and secure."

The new peace plan will be headed up by a Board of Peace, which is understood to be helmed by Trump alongside other senior officials.

The board will be in charge of overseeing humanitarian assistance, reconstruction, and support a technocratic Palestinian committee responsible for day-to-day administration while the Palestinian Authority implements its reforms.

The stabilisation force mentioned will also ‘dismantle terrorist infrastructure, decommission weapons, and maintain the safety of Palestinian civilians'.

After the announcement of the UN’s approval, Donald Trump took to Truth Social to express his gratitude, writing: “Congratulations to the World on the incredible Vote of the United Nations Security Council, just moments ago, acknowledging and endorsing the BOARD OF PEACE, which will be chaired by me, and include the most powerful and respected Leaders throughout the World.

“This will go down as one of the biggest approvals in the History of the United Nations, will lead to further Peace all over the World, and is a moment of true Historic proportion! Thank you to the United Nations, and all of the Countries on the U.N. Security Council, China, Russia, France, The United Kingdom, Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, South Korea, Pakistan, Panama, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, and Somalia.

“Also thank you to those Countries that weren’t on this Committee, but strongly backed the effort, including Qatar, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkiye, and Jordan. The members of the Board, and many more exciting announcements, will be made in the coming weeks.”
