After President Donald Trump successfully brokered a ceasefire deal in Gaza this week, his predecessor has heaped praise on his administration.

With the Republican vying for the Nobel Peace Prize, he's been on a mission for world peace, bringing an end to the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Pakistan and India - all while rather ironically deploying the National Guard to displace homeless people in Washington D.C,.

Unfortunately for the 79-year-old, he was pipped at the post by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, but he still managed to bring an end to the humanitarian crisis on the Gaza Strip - or at least temporarily.

The president had been pushing for Israel to agree on a ceasefire amid the country's relentless bombing of Gaza since October 2023, almost immediately following the Hamas-led attack in southern Israel on October 7 of that year.

Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, had kept hostages from Israel over the past two years, while Israel had imprisoned Palestinians. All surviving hostages have now been released.

According to the BBC, the proposed 'initial withdrawal' as part of the 'peace plan' agreement would leave Gaza around 55 percent occupied, and the second would then leave it about 40 percent occupied.

And a final withdrawal phase should see a 'security buffer zone', which would leave roughly 15 percent of Gaza occupied by the Israeli military.

Now, taking to Twitter to heap praise on his successor, former president Joe Biden congratulated Trump, all while surprisingly attempting to claim some of the applause for his own administration.

"I am deeply grateful and relieved that this day has come - for the last living 20 hostages who have been through unimaginable hell and are finally reunited with their families and loved ones, and for the civilians in Gaza who have experienced immeasurable loss and will finally get the chance to rebuild their lives," he wrote.

"The road to this deal was not easy. My Administration worked relentlessly to bring hostages home, get relief to Palestinian civilians, and end the war. I commend President Trump and his team for their work to get a renewed ceasefire deal over the finish line.

"Now, with the backing of the United States and the world, the Middle East is on a path to peace that I hope endures and a future for Israelis and Palestinians alike with equal measures of peace, dignity, and safety."

It comes just days after Trump again told reporters on Air Force One that Biden - who the POTUS previously insisted no one should feel sorry for after being diagnosed with cancer - is incompetent.

"We had an incompetent administration. We had an incompetent president. And because of a crooked election, millions of people are dead," he said.

"And by the way, the Israeli thing was much harder to get settled because of the past administration."
