A baggage handler has warned passengers against buying a certain type of suitcase for their next vacation.

While travelling is usually exciting, it brings on a whole load of hassle. But there's no gain without pain, right?

From actually packing your suitcase to navigating airport security and then beating jet lag, it can take a while to truly feel like you're on holiday.

A major source of stress can be the fear of our luggage getting damaged or lost.

Suitcases aren't exactly cheap, and we're trusting them to keep our clothes and other precious vacation items safe.

Fortunately, an airport worker has revealed the ideal type of suitcase to buy to prevent this from happening - and the one to avoid.

Posting to Reddit, a baggage handler called Adam invited people to ask him anything about his job.

"I've been doing baggage handling at an airport for a while, while also doing some ramp stuff," he explained.

The post has since received hundreds of comments, with frequent flyers anxious to make their airport trips as smooth as possible.

To prevent suitcases getting damaged, Adam gave his recommendations on the best types of bags to buy.

He recommended investing in luggage with 'four good wheels, with soft lining on the inside and a hard outer shell'.

He advised against soft-shell suitcases, especially if you have 'anything fragile' you're taking away with you.

"You want a hard case to keep that stuff protected", he said.

However, he did say that soft suitcases 'tend to be more space efficient in the hold' but that's because they can get 'compressed'.

So, it's best to avoid soft cases to reduce the chances of your stuff getting damaged.

Elsewhere, a baggage handler on TikTok has warned people against wrapping their luggage in plastic.

People might do this to try and better protect their suitcases.

But Adrian - who goes by the name of @teh_deagz on the app - claims he has to throw these types of bags down the ramp because of the likelihood they will get stuck while moving around the airport.

However, wrapping suitcases doesn't actually serve much purpose, according to Travel & Leisure.

It’s generally not recommended to wrap bags in plastic, as it doesn’t provide any substantial benefits that can justify the added cost.

Instead, the outlet recommends a suitcase with a TSA-approved lock for added protection.
