One of the joys of social media is that politicians and celebrities can reply to claims made about themselves instantaneously.
While there are also plenty of times we wished people couldn't share their every thought and whim online, Maryland Governor Wes Moore used his X account to hit back at a claim made by Donald Trump, and he did it with just one word.
It comes after the POTUS alleged Gov. Moore had been piling on the praise to him at the Army-Navy football game in Maryland in December 2024, in what he called a 'private' conversation between the pair.
Trump insisted: "He came over to me, hugged me, shook my hand and said, 'Sir, you're the greatest president of my lifetime.'

"I said, 'It's really nice of you to say that, I'd love for you to say it publicly, but I don't think you can do that so it's OK.'

"'No sir, you're doing a fantastic job, I wanted to just shake your hand.'"
After Trump made the claim, Moore took to X (formerly Twitter) to dispute it with a one-word takedown: "lol."

He followed it up, elaborating: "Keep telling yourself that, Mr. President," and according to The Washington Post, he then went on to WBAL Radio and doubled down on his denial.
He said: “When I say that conversation never happened, that imaginary conversation never happened, I mean that conversation never happened.”
Even more awkwardly for the president, Fox News went on to fact-check his claim, and aired footage filmed at that very football game.

The footage was filmed by the network for a documentary programme about Trump, and it featured the meeting between the POTUS and Moore.
It didn't feature the words 'greatest president', nor did it feature Moore hugging Trump as he insisted.
According to CNN, the clip showed Moore shaking Trump’s hand and saying, “Welcome back to Maryland, sir. Welcome back to Maryland. It’s good to see you.”
He added, “We are very, very anxious to be able to work closely with you.”

Moore also talked about securing federal funding to fix a bridge, and said it would be completed 'on time, on budget.'
Trump responded to this with 'We'll help you out', and Moore replied 'Thank you, sir.'
One of Moore's spokesmen, Carter Elliott, went on to tell CNN: "That was the only interaction at the game” and once again insisted Moore 'certainly didn’t say' that Trump was the 'greatest president'.

He said the footage shown by Fox 'captures the whole interaction aside from them taking a photo at the end, I believe.'
Awkward.
