Woman's car totalled in her driveway by Amazon driver just two days after paying car off

She'd just finished paying off the car and then an Amazon driver crashed into it

A Florida woman had only just finished paying off her car when it was totalled by an Amazon delivery driver.

Sara Dooley was sitting in her driveway near her newly paid-off Toyota in February when she saw the delivery van crash into it.

It then took her weeks before she could get the car looked at, only to be told there was more damage than expected and the vehicle had been totalled.

In the meantime Amazon has paid for a rental car, but Dooley is still waiting for the lump sum payment for the value of her car.

She might be waiting a little while longer because Amazon's insurers then told her they might be able to fix her broken car after all.

Speaking to WFLA, Dooley explained how she saw the Amazon delivery van accidentally crash into the back of her car while it was sat on the driveway and was later told that it was probably a write-off.

She said: "He hits the gas thinking he's gonna go out and just rams right back into my car.

"It knocked it forward and backward, and the step that he uses to get into the truck was actually in my car. He literally just was holding the steering wheel and put his head down on it 'cause he knew he messed up."

"They started saying 'OK, well it looks like we're going to total it'. That's two days after I had just paid the car off."

Two months after the crash Sarah is still waiting for a resolution, saying she wants 'to either get our car back or get our settlement amount'.

Once she got her car to a body shop they told her there was even more damage than previously thought.

She said she was 'fine with either or' and urged Amazon to 'make it right and just put this whole thing to bed'.

An Amazon spokesperson responding to WFLA inquiries said: "We’re looking into this issue and working directly with the customer and other parties involved to make this right."

UNILAD has contacted Amazon for further comment.

Delivery drivers have had a few notable mishaps in the past, including one particularly nasty spill where a lorry carrying Amazon parcels crashed and spilled hundreds of people's orders all across the road.

Fortunately nobody was seriously injured, but there will have been plenty of people being told that their deliveries were delayed.

One Amazon delivery driver who was determined to ensure people got their packages on time recently walked through the middle of a police stand-off to make it to the right doorstep.
