Sydney Sweeney thought she was being fired after protesting against extreme nudity in Euphoria

Sydney Sweeney thought that Euphoria showrunner Sam Levinson was going to sack her and kill off her character after she expressed her concerns about some of the nude scenes she was doing. Here's another scene from the drama that she later described as 'gross':

Sweeney plays Cassie Howard on the popular HBO show, garnering an Emmy nomination for her performances in the last season, but she has spoken in the past about how she sometimes feels that her accomplishments are overlooked because of the nudity in her role.

While the 25-year-old has said that she is comfortable with most of the nude scenes that she’s been asked to do, she has admitted that some of the scenes – specifically one in a hot tub – can be ‘gross’.

Admittedly, that was because of a load of fake sick, but still.

After she made some comments about the levels of nudity in the press, she feared that she might get booted off the show by Sam Levinson.

Once she read the second series script, she became convinced that her character was going to die in a scene where Cassie takes off her seatbelt when she's in the car with Nate.

In the end, it turned out not to be the case – Cassie is sticking around.

She said: “I thought that Sam was killing me.

“I thought that I was going to get killed. When I read it, I thought that Cassie was getting killed off.

“I was really bummed.

“But then it turned into this weirdly sensual, dangerous connection between these two characters. And it became what it became.

“And the hanging out the window, actually, was just me hanging out the window.

“It was just random and very ‘in the moment’.”

Well, there you have it.

As we’ve covered, Sweeney has mentioned her concerns about the amount of nudity in the show before, though.

On one occasion, she recalled: “There are moments where [my character] Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here.’”

Sweeney was worried that she'd get fired.

Still, she’s always been positive about Levinson and the rest of her crew, and she’s likely to continue in the role.

Next up for Sweeney is a performance in Sony’s upcoming movie Madame Web, in which she’s rumoured to be playing Spider-Woman.

That film will be the sixth film in Sony’s Spider-Man franchise, and is set to be directed by S.J Clarkson, a British director with credits ranging from niche UK shows like Bad Girls, Footballers’ Wives, and Casualty to US shows like Dexter and Orange Is the New Black.

Also starring Dakota Johnson in the title role, the film is slated for release in early 2024.
