Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney says she 'wants to go home and scrub herself raw' after naked scenes

She said some projects she's worked on left her feeling 'disgusting'

Sydney Sweeney has admitted that she’s worked on projects that had scenes which left her wanting to go home and scrub herself ‘completely raw’.

The 25-year-old Euphoria star said she believes there’s ‘a stigma against actresses who get naked on screen’ which isn’t the case for men.

Speaking to the Independent last year, she said: “When a guy has a sex scene or shows his body, he still wins awards and gets praise. But the moment a girl does it, it’s completely different.”

But while Sweeney is willing to film scenes featuring sex and nudity, not all of her experiences have been positive and claimed projects she worked on made her want 'scrub' herself afterwards.

She said: “I’ve had experiences where I want to go home and scrub myself completely raw because I feel disgusting… I didn’t feel comfortable with my castmate or the crew, and I just didn’t feel like my character would be doing it.”

However, she stressed that nothing like that had happened when filming Euphoria, where an on-set intimacy coordinator helps guide sex scenes.

She told the outlet: “Sam [Levinson, the screenwriter] is amazing.”

Sweeney went on to explain that she also felt comfortable speaking up if she thought the nudity was unnecessary.

She added: “There are moments where Cassie was supposed to be shirtless and I would tell Sam, ‘I don’t really think that’s necessary here.’ He was like, ‘OK, we don’t need it’. I’ve never felt like Sam has pushed it on me or was trying to get a nude scene into an HBO show. When I didn’t want to do it, he didn’t make me.”

Sweeney has previously spoken about the ‘gross’ hot tub throwing up scene she filmed for Euphoria.

Speaking to Decider, the star explained: “During the hot tub scene, during the throwing up, I got really grossed out.”

She elaborated: “They had this invisible tube that looked like a horse bit and they put it in my mouth and I had to somehow hold it and make it look semi-normal and then throw up over everyone which was… it was so gross.”

Despite all the fake vomit and tears, Sweeney admitted she ultimately ‘loved’ shooting the scene because she and her co-stars were ‘all together’.

“A lot of times we don’t get to have many scenes where we have a bunch of girls together and we were literally in one room. So, it was chaotic but fun,” the star said. Fair enough - doesn’t sound quite like my idea of fun, but each to their own.
