An actress from American Pie has claimed that an infamous scene in the teen classic would be a 'problem' if the film was released now.

Shannon Elizabeth, who played Nadia in the 1999 comedy flick, made the admission whilst speaking to Page Six.

The scene Elizabeth was referring to involves foreign exchange student Nadia being filmed by the film's male protagonists, as she changes in her bedroom.

Unfortunately for Nadia, the video also catches her masturbating - which is then broadcast to her entire school.

After the video is shared, Nadia is sent home to the Czech Republic, while the boys who filmed and broadcasted the video received no punishment.

Reflecting on the scene, Elizabeth said: "If this had come out after the #MeToo movement, there would definitely be a problem. I think that it would have gone down differently."

The scene was reportedly awkward for the actress to shoot, as she was relatively new to the film industry at the time.

Elizabeth said: "It was a closed set and it was just me in this room and the boom guy above me.

"I was like, ‘This is so weird.’ It was a square room they had built in the middle of a warehouse and we made everyone that didn’t need to be there leave set.

"That’s the main thing I remember, just me and the boom guy, and trying to make jokes with the directors and make light of it because if I wasn’t nervous maybe they wouldn’t be so nervous… I just tried to make it no big deal."

In addition to her thoughts of the infamous scene, Elizabeth also opened up about her gripes with the accent that she used during the movie.

Elizabeth was asked to dub her lines for the film, leading to frustration on her part, as she felt that she wasn't able to perfect the Eastern European accent.

The experience was so bad that she reportedly told friends to avoid seeing the comedy flick.

Elizabeth said: "I told all my friends, ‘This movie’s gonna suck’ ‘cause they messed with my accent so much! I was like, ‘No, they’re ruining it, don’t watch it'.

"A lot of people did say my accent was terrible and I’m like, ‘Yeah, ‘cause they messed with it - they didn’t let me do what I wanted to do.’"

Since its release in 1999, American Pie has three sequels, released in 2001, 2003 and 2012 respectively.
