A popular Prime Video drama that Stephen King once called 'one of the best' is getting a prequel.

There's rarely a bad time to get stuck into a new TV series, and with winter on the way, why not start now? With seven seasons, a spin-off, and now a prequel, this 97 per cent-rated crime drama sure does tick a lot of boxes.

And with a glowing recommendation from Stephen King, you can't go far wrong.

Streaming in its entirety on Prime Video, the original show follows an LAPD homicide detective who is dealing with way more than he bargained for.

Played by Titus Welliver, the officer finds himself at the centre of a complex murder case, a chaotic federal investigation and a potentially disastrous threat against the city he swore to protect.

Based on the best-selling books by Michael Connelly, the series also stars Jamie Hector, Amy Aquino, Madison Lintz and Lance Reddick.

It ran for 68 episodes between 2014 and 2021, making Welliver's detective the longest-running streaming character.

The series in question is, of course, Bosch, named after the drama's titular character, Harry Bosch.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), King said there's 'nothing better' than Bosch on Amazon Prime.

"The story is engrossing, the cast—led my Titus Welliver—is superb, and nobody is phoning it in. One of the best shows now on TV," he added.

And it's not just King - Rotten Tomatoes critics have also waxed lyrical about the show, rating it 97 per cent across all seven of its seasons.

Some said it was 'gritty' and 'genuinely engaging,' while one called it 'exceedingly bingeable.'

After the original series ended, the Bosch's storyline continued in the spin-off show Bosch: Legacy, which ran for three seasons before its finale in April.

Now, the Bosch universe is moving to a new streaming service for its action-packed prequel.

Titled Bosch: Start of Watch, the series explores the titular character's origin story, with Shameless star Cameron Monaghan as a young Bosch and Star Trek's Omari Hardwick as veteran officer Eli Bridges.

And in this prequel, there'll be no shortage of drama as Bosch becomes entangled in 'a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption' which will put his loyalty to the test, as well as shape the course of his future.

Bosch: Start of Watch will commence filming in Los Angeles in 2026, before releasing on MGM+ at a later date.

In the meantime, Bosch and Bosch: Start of Watch are streaming now on Prime Video.
