An Oscar-nominated movie widely considered one the best of the decade is finally joining Netflix.

The world's largest streaming service is constantly reshuffling its huge catalogue of movies and TV shows.

Each month, new titles join the site as those whose licences have expired are removed.

This May, fans are saying goodbye to Miles Teller's Whiplash, Steven Spielberg's Schindler's List, and Stephen Graham's kitchen-drama Boiling Point, among others.

But dozens more are being added in the US - including this 'extraordinary' movie, which had fans in floods of tears.

The movie was nominated for two Oscars: Best Picture and Original Screenplay (A24)

First released in 2023, the A24 film stars Greta Lee as Nora Moon, a South Korean native who immigrates to Canada with her family.

The move sees her lose touch with childhood friend Hae Sung (Teo Yoo), all the while their separate lives are charted over the course of 24 years.

Their paths one day cross when Hae Sung puts out a social media post trying to track her down.

And when they finally do meet, another 12 years later, they contemplate the nature of their relationship - all the 'could have beens' and 'what ifs.'

The plot is inspired by real events from the life of director and writer, Celine Song.

In case you hadn't already guessed, the movie in question is Past Lives.

You can catch its trailer below:

Past Lives joins Netflix in the US on Thursday May 1.

The movie has earned an impressive Rotten Tomatoes critics rating, coming in at 95 percent.

Its consensus calls Past Lives a 'remarkable debut for writer-director Celine Song,' praising how the movie 'uses the bonds between its sensitively sketched central characters to support trenchant observations on the human condition'.

InSession Film's Dave Giannini hailed it 'a treasure,' adding: "And [it] will continue to be for many years."

Elsewhere, Collider ranked it at number seven in its list of '20 Best Drama Movies of the 2020s So Far,' IndieWire named it among the 'Best American Independent Movies of the 21st Century' and Looper said it was the 'Best PG-13 Movie of All Time'.

And as if these glowing reviews weren't enough, the movie was also nominated for five Golden Globe and two Oscars, including Best Picture and Original Screenplay.

Although, be prepared to shed a tear or two when you watch.

One X, formerly Twitter, user said of the movie: "Literally brought me to tears. Poetic in a way, gently telling a story that channels through 30 plus years of life."

A second wrote: "I’ve seen Past Lives four times now, and I still ugly cry at the end," as a third said: "Past Lives is one of the few movies that made me cry."

Past Lives joins Netflix on Thursday May 1.
