‘Disturbing’ horror with 94% RT score dubbed best of the 2020s is free to stream now

The movie delivers 'stylishly disturbing thrills'

Horror fans can stream a 'disturbing' movie that's been hailed the very best of the decade so far - all for free.

The first half of 2025 alone has been huge for lovers of the genre - from Michael B. Jordan's Sinners and Dave Franco and Alison Brie's Together, to Zack Creggar's Weapons and every hair-raising release in between.

And not to make you existential, but we're more than halfway through the 2020s, which has prompted social media users to discuss the very best horror has had to offer us thus far. Turns out, it's a 'mind-bending trip' from 2020 that's left a mark on viewers.

Likened to hit Netflix anthology Black Mirror, some fans claimed they were so stunned by the movie, they walked away speechless.

The psychological sci-fi is from the mind of Brandon Cronenberg and centers on Tasya Vos (Andrea Riseborough), a skilled corporate assassin who uses brain-implant technology to take control of other people's bodies and carry out killings.

But during her latest job, things begin to unravel as the boundaries between identities blur and control slips away.

The supporting cast includes Christopher Abbott, Rossif Sutherland, Tuppence Middleton, Sean Bean and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Discussing the horror movies of the 2020s so far over on Reddit's r/Horror community, one person wanted to know: "Since we're half way through the decade... in your opinion which has been the best horror movie of the 2020s (so far)?"

The thread received hundreds of replies, but the top-voted answer was the underdog we're referring to, Possessor.

"While it doesn't have the name recognition of some films that have penetrated the pop culture zeitgeist like The Substance or Barbarian or the audacious scares of something like When Evil Lurks, I think Possessor is one of the most cerebral and haunting sci-thrillers I've ever seen," one fan said.

"That one was so disturbing and really stayed with me," a second responded.

"Hell of a movie," a third weighed in. "Not every movie makes me walk away in silence, especially not many horror movies. Possessor was something else."

A fourth agreed: "Love seeing this as the top comment. I watched Possessor almost a week ago and its still sticking with me. I loved it."

The movie has been rated an incredible 94 percent across 225 Rotten Tomatoes critic reviews.

They say in their consensus: "Further refining his provocative vision, writer-director Brandon Cronenberg uses Possessor's potentially over-the-top premise as a delivery mechanism for stylishly disturbing thrills."

Viewers rated it just 59 percent across 50 reviews - yet some were still passionate about Possessor.

One hailed it a 'mind bending trip,' as a second praised its 'completely original' storyline and 'perfect' execution.

"Was anticipating seeing this film with high expectations - and it exceeded everything I have hoped for - gory, bloody, violent, shocking, clever, disturbing, crazy... Brandon Cronenberg is a master," a third concluded.

Possessor is streaming for free now on Kanopy in the US and Tubi in the UK.
