Netflix has finally added a critically-acclaimed TV series with the 'best first episode ever' to its catalogue.

The popular streaming service is constantly shaking up its library, removing some epic titles but sometimes replacing them with even better options.

And one new-to-Netflix series has just broken into platform's most-watched charts, a little more than a week after joining.

At the time of writing, it's number nine on the US top 10 TV series rankings, as per FlixPatrol.

The sci-fi show is made up of 50 episodes across five seasons, making for the ultimate binge-watch.

It first aired on BBC America between 2013 and 2017, before finally making its Netflix debut on September 1.

According to JustWatch, it's available both on standard and ad-supported tiers, with availability through September 1 2026.

She Hulk star Tatiana Maslany earned three Emmy nominations for her acclaimed performance in the show, taking home the award in 2016 on her second nomination.

The Canadian actress portrays Sarah Manning, a woman who assumes the identity of a dead woman who looks exactly like her - as you do...

Only she soon discovers she's actually one of many genetically-identical clones caught up in a vast conspiracy.

Sarah, her foster brother Felix (Jordan Gavaris) and fellow clones Alison and Cosima - both played by Maslany - must unravel the secrets behind their creation. But they have to act fast, as their shady creators are on their case and not afraid to act violently.

The series in question is, of course, Orphan Black.

Scoring a solid 93 percent across all five seasons, Rotten Tomatoes critics described it as 'a wild science fiction ride that incorporates dramatic sensibilities which can turn from suspenseful to light at a moment's notice.'

Season two earned its highest score from critics, coming in at a near-perfect 98 percent.

But fans reckon it's the show's pilot episode that's the best of all time.

"Possibly one of the best first episodes of any show ever," one fan said. "Enjoyable, fresh, interesting, with the right amount of twists and turns.

"Tatiana Maslany's range of performance is incredible. This show has me convinced that she's the best actress of the decade."

A second described it as 'literally perfect,' adding: 'A real acting feat!"

A third wrote: "I absolutely love Orphan Black, it has got to be my all time favourite series!" as others shared it was their go-to rewatch show.

The discussion continued over on Reddit, where fans hoped Netflix might reignite excitement for the show.

"Can't wait for the OB memes to blast off. Tatiana needs to be seen by more audience," one fan agreed.

"I'm already seeing tons of people on Twitter discovering it for the first time," a second social media user chipped in.

"Someone’s probably gonna pick it up and it post a TikTok about its greatness and then it’s gonna snowball from there," somebody else hoped.

All five seasons of Orphan Black are available to stream now on Netflix.
