Netflix has confirmed the 'best sci-fi series of all time' is rejoining its library after a three-year break.

Fans of the genre will no doubt be delighted about the return, which comes as Prime Video last month confirmed it would be getting its first spin-off series in years.

All 10 seasons of the popular show will rejoin Netflix in the US, UK and Latin America from February 15.

It had previously streamed on the platform before being removed in late 2022 and joining Prime Video instead.

The TV series in question is Stargate SG-1, which ran between 1997 to 2007.

It follows an elite US Air Force team who are tasked with exploring the galaxy using an ancient alien device known as the Stargate, which creates wormholes between distant planets.

Set after the events of the 1994 original film, the series centres on SG-1, a four-person military and scientific unit led by Colonel Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), alongside archaeologist Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), astrophysicist Captain Samantha Carter (Amanda Tapping), and Teal’c (Christopher Judge), a former warrior of the alien Goa’uld who defects to Earth’s side.

It averaged an impressive 90 percent Rotten Tomatoes audience score across all 10 of its seasons.

Fans were also quick to sing Stargate SG-1's praises, with one hailing it 'one of the best sci-fi shows of all time.'

"The best TV series ever," a second agreed. "I have watched it probably five to six times. I love them all."

Fans have a whole new era to look forward to, with Amazon MGM studios confirming in November that a brand-new original series is in development for Prime Video.

The project marks the franchise’s first major revival since Stargate Universe ended in 2011.

Veteran Stargate writer and producer Martin Gero, who is serving as showrunner, writer and executive producer on the spinoff, has promised fans 'something extraordinary'.

"Twenty years ago, my first real job in television was as a story editor on Stargate: Atlantis. I spent five years at the franchise working across all three series, Stargate taught me everything about making television - it's written into my DNA," Gero said.

"I'm beyond thrilled that Amazon MGM Studios has entrusted me with guiding this incredible franchise into its next phase."

He continued: "For those who've kept the gate active through conventions, rewatches, and unwavering faith - this one's for you. And for those that are new to our world - I promise you're in for something extraordinary.”

While story details remain under wraps, the new series is expected to respect the existing lore while serving up a fresh, modern entry point for new audiences.

Stargate SG-1 rejoins Netflix on February 15.

Stargate Atlantis and Stargate Universe are streaming now on Prime Video.
