Underrated Netflix series with ‘perfect’ lead has been binge-watched for 138,600,000 hours

'I love the drama, and this show is full of it'

A 'forgotten' Netflix series labeled as 'innovative' has been streamed for hundreds of millions of hours.

The platform is home to thousands of titles, from hilarious sitcoms to gripping crime dramas. But with so many options, it can be difficult to decide on what to watch next.

Well, Reddit users have been giving their recommendations for shows they reckon are 'addictive' or among 'the best' on Netflix.

And some reckon an underrated TV drama starring American Horror Story's Debby Ryan should be added to your watch-list.

It follows 17-year-old Patty Bladell (Ryan), who has endured years of bullying and body-shaming at the hands of her peers.

But after an altercation with a homeless man, her jaw is wired shut and she dramatically sheds the pounds over summer, thanks to a liquid-only diet.

Returning to school. Patty enlists beauty pageant coach Bob Armstrong (The Walking Dead's Dallas Roberts) in a bid to exact revenge on her tormentors.

And her plans soon take a darkly comic turn, as she becomes increasingly obsessed with identity, beauty standards - and death.

The show in question is called Insatiable, which debuted on the streaming service in 2018. Its second season followed in 2019.

It racked up an incredible 138.6 million hours viewed between January 2023 and December 2024, as per FlixPatrol data.

One subscriber took to Reddit on a quest to find the 'best/most addictive shows to watch,' adding: "Any recommendations for me? I’m at a loss with finding a good show to watch."

Hundreds of people responded to the thread, while some suggested the likes of Dept Q and Derry Girls.

But one title in particular stood out - which others had even admitted they'd forgotten about.

"INSATIABLE is so good," one person recommended. "It has murder but Debby Ryan was flawless."

"Ooh, Insatiable was great! I forgot about that show," a second person weighed in.

Over on Rotten Tomatoes, the show has critics and fans at odds.

The former rated it a shocking 12 percent, while the latter awarded it 83 percent across 2,500 reviews.

"Broad stereotypes, clumsy social commentary, and a failed attempt at "wokeness" make Insatiable hard to swallow," critics declared in their consensus.

Yet fans disagreed, as one gave their hailed it an 'innovative series', writing: "Fun, entertaining, hilarious, dark, edgy. We live in such a sensitive world that caters to people's feelings rather than people taking accountability for their own feelings, I feel like that had a big pull on the negative reviews and criticism."

Praising the 'satire and dark comedy' elements of the series, another person said: "I loved that this show did not care to step on toes and bring up issues of today."

A third social media user gave their verdict: "Stupid and ridiculous show in the best way... I always recommend it when I know someone is looking for something lighthearted to watch."

Many echoed praise for Ryan's portrayal of Patty. "Debby is perfect as a flawed yet still lovable protagonist," one person wrote, as a second agreed: "Debby Ryan is a fabulous actress and her character's arch really shone brightly."

They added: "I just had to watch the next episode. I love the drama, and this show is full of it."

Both seasons of Insatiable are streaming now on Netflix.
