Netflix subscribers are defying critics over a comedy sitcom that has them ‘wheeze laughing constantly’ some eight years after the first season dropped.

While there are a lot of truly awful comedies out there, it doesn't mean some some fans cannot find some form of enjoyment and laughter out of it.

We all have a different sense of humour, and it appears industry critics have a completely different type of comedy arch in mind compared to what is being told in this particular sitcom.

Starring the likes of Fred Savage, Keegan-Michael Key, Francesca Delbanco, and Cobie Smulders, the comedy series has been praised by fans, but critics do not have the same view.

Friends From College has become the hot topic of conversation on Reddit after one person asked: "Looking for recommendations of what you believe to be the most underrated shows that you have watched on Netflix/Prime apps."

A fellow Redditor took to the comments and wrote about Friends From College, saying: "I liked the first season and LOVED the second, I would wheeze laughing constantly. They were totally annoying people I should have hated but I found the show soooo entertaining."

A fellow Netflix viewer demanded another season of the show, typing: "Loved this show! So pissed we won’t get a third season."

As they name would suggest, Friends From College follows pals Ethan, Lisa, Sam, Nick, Max, and Marianne, who met during their college days and are now in their forties trying to navigate what life throws at them.

In 2019, Netflix announced it would not be renewing the sitcom for a third season amid poor reviews from critics.

"Friends from College will not be returning for a third season. Thanks to everyone who watched it. Happy Presidents’ Day!" the streaming platform announced on Twitter.

"We’re grateful to creators Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco for creating a wise, funny and supremely relatable show.

"We also want to thank the hard-working crew, and we raise a glass to the amazingly talented cast including Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage, Cobie Smulders, Nat Faxon, Annie Parisse, Jae Suh Park and Billy Eichner."

Season one of Friends From College sits at a lowly 26 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, suggesting critics do not rate the sitcom in the slightest.

Willa Paskin, from Slate, penned: "It was not secretly good, though it may have had some good-enough things about it. It was bad."

The Daily Mail's review read: "The cast seem to think that if they manically throw all their energy at their characters it will help. It doesn't."

Season one and two of Friends From College is available to stream on Netflix now.
