Some Netflix subscribers are convinced the Obamas are sending a message with the film Leave the World Behind.

While some viewers reported being left 'disappointed' by the ending of the new Netflix psychological thriller, others are experiencing 'recurring nightmares' and some are pointing to Michelle and Barack Obama as sending a warning through the movie.

If you're not a true Netflix user and don't leap to see what's hit the top of its recommended list, then quite frankly, you deserve the spoilers which are about to follow.

Prepare to run to your Netflix account right now to see what the hype's about:

Leave the World Behind's official synopsis reads: "A family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout.

"As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world."

Basically, the film reveals a 'three stage manoeuvre that could topple a country's government from within' - the first stage, 'isolation,' the second 'synchronised chaos' and 'covert attacks' and finally, 'civil war'.

And with Leave the World Behind being executive produced by none other than 44th US President Barack Obama and former First Lady of the US Michelle Obama - via the Obamas' production company Higher Ground - some viewers think the political figures are trying to send us all a warning.

Do you think the Obamas are trying to send a message?

Viewers are flooding to social media with conspiracy theories on what the Obamas' involvement in the movie could mean and what the political duo could be trying to tell us.

One X user said: "If you have Netflix, you need to watch Leave the World Behind. A scenario like this has kept me up nights for many years.

"It couldn't be more timely. It was produced by Barack and Michelle Obama. Leave the World Behind is a warning of what could be."

"The movie Leave the World Behind seems like a message & a lot of ppl say that hate it, but the message seems like it’s preparing humans to know how to survive w/o the internet, the Obamas produced it soo, they probably telling us w/o actually telling us something gonna happen," another added.

And a third commented: "Barack & Michelle Obama made a film called Leave the World Behind on Netflix that portrays the apocalypse.

"It shows the three stages needed in order to cause a Civil War to destabilize the Country!! We’re already passed 1. This is getting scary & absurd!"
