Julia Roberts wanted to change one ‘embarrassing’ scene in Netflix’s Leave The World Behind

Julia Robert almost demanded the director of Netflix's Leave The World Behind make a big change to a hilarious scene.

Julia Roberts revealed that she struggled with one scene in her latest film Leave the World - and requested a change.

Since it's arrival to Netflix's pantheon of films and TV shows on Friday (December 8), the film has certainly got people online talking - particularly about the ending.

Many were pretty confused by a plot hole in the movie's ending - so much so that the writer even came out to say why it was 'inevitable'.

The film's synopsis reads: "A family vacation on Long Island is interrupted by two strangers bearing news of a mysterious blackout.

"As the threat grows more imminent, both families must decide how best to survive the potential crisis, all while grappling with their own place in this collapsing world."

The film also boasts a pretty impressive cast - with Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke and Mahershala Ali all in starring roles.

And one scene in particular left Roberts feeling so 'embarrassed' .

Roberts has admitted she felt considerably awkward and embarrassed during a dance scene in the film.

The scene in question featured a dance between her and Ali - and this was made infinitely worse by the 1997 song choice, Too Close by R&B trio Next.

Speaking to MTV, Roberts said: [Director Sam Esmail] and I are very good friends, and we agree on almost everything, except that song, and I asked him to change it so many times.

“No offense to the talented blokes, but I asked him so many times because I was so embarrassed at the beginning of that song and Mahershala Ali is standing there, all eight-and-a-half feet tall of him.”

Her embarrassment is certainly justified because her moves... need a bit of work.

Despite her reservations, the Pretty Woman star said that she eventually came around to Esmail’s vision.

“Even just this morning, Sam explained yet again why he picked that song, and he’s completely right because being uncomfortable is the right thing, and just that song being kind of known but not really popularized, and he just has an answer for everything.

“But it was very funny to have to portray Amanda in that scenario of my boogie.”

And Esmail has revealed that there was, in fact, a method to his madness and that Roberts didn’t suffer for nothing.

Despite her reservations, the actor said she eventually came around to Esmail’s vision.

He said in an interview with The Direct: “That moment in the film needed to feel very grounded and very silly, and I felt that the song kind of allowed those two characters to cut loose in a way that maybe a more familiar or popular song wouldn’t have.

"And come on, their dance moves just really complimented the lyrics.”

And during an interview with Collider last week, Roberts also explained how she managed to make it through the dance scene.

“There was a lot of rehearsal time for that, a lot of it was just talking about how to hold the space, how to share the space, how to be apart from each other, how to be close together,” she said.

“A lot of it was just me being able to look up into Mahershala eyes without my cheeks turn red and getting teary-eyed and giggly like a 15-year-old girl.”

Admittedly, while her moves aren’t quite up to par, it does serve as a sweet scene in an otherwise uncertain world.
