New movie releasing this week is being called the new The Dark Knight

A new film with an all-star cast is set to blow up at the box office, according to early reception.

An anticipated sequel that's being called the new The Dark Knight is getting some of the highest praise a film can get.

When it comes to sequels, a lot of the time, they just don’t land.

At best they struggle to capture the magic of what made the first film so brilliant, at worst... well they are just straight up trash and a reminder that we should have just done the film once and called it a day.

Dune, which hit cinemas in 2021, remains one of the most well-received epic science fiction films of recent memory. With such a strong cast and intriguing story it was no surprise it was a box office success.

Now, it’s sequel Dune: Part 2 comes out today (February 29) and fans and critics can’t sing its praises enough.

Not only is it being considered an improvement of the first film, which boasts an 83 percent tomatometer score and 90 percent audience score, it is being put in a category amongst some of the best sequels around.

Not just good sequels, I mean, films that are millions of peoples' favorite - basically bonafide classics.

Dune: Part 2, according to some fans and critics, has been positioned alongside films like Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, Star War’s Empire Strikes Back and the Godfather Part 2.

GamesRadar’s Kevin Harley seemed to start this comparison with his review of the film.

Warner Bros.

He said: “A sequel that ranks alongside The Dark Knight, The Empire Strikes Back and Blade Runner 2049. No mere expansion pack for the dreamier Part One, it’s a completion of a story that might have appeared misleading, certainly incomplete, without it,”

Social media users appeared to throw out similar praise for the film.

“Dune Part 2 is the best sequel we might have witnessed since The Dark knight.. Zero Exaggeration,” wrote one user on X.

“Remember when The Dark Knight came out and everyone said Heath Ledger's performance was going to be a cornerstone for acting?

“Imagine that, but for an entire cast of a movie. That's what Dune Part 2 is,” wrote another.

Warner Bros.

“Critics are saying Dune Part 2 is like the Dark Knight of trilogies. I WILL BE SEATEDDDD,” another commented.

“Dune Part 2 is the best movie I’ve seen since The Dark Knight,” a fourth said.

Some users have even commented that the sequel is even better The Dark Knight and is now the best sequel ever made.

I don’t know about all that, but the sequel currently maintains a 96% tomatometer score after over 200 reviews, so who knows.
