Jackie Chan once said he won't leave any money to his son as he will 'waste' fortune

The action icon has said that if his son, Jaycee is 'capable' then 'he can make his own money.'

It’s been claimed that Jackie Chan’s son Jaycee will not inherit his father’s estimated $400 million (£323 million) fortune when he dies.

It’s been well-documented that Jackie Chan, 69, has a tumultuous relationship with his two children - Jaycee Chan, 40 and Etta Ng Chok Lam, 23.

Earlier this week, the latter claimed that the Spy Next Door actor had 'abandoned' her.

Despite having a reported net worth of around $400 million, Chan has been adamant that his children must make their own way in the world.

He’s also said that his oldest child, Jaycee, has no chance of getting his hands on his Hollywood-made money.

In an interview with SOH Talks & Ideas, Chan said that he believed his son had 'no discipline' and didn’t 'know how to talk' in conversations.

In his 2015 autobiography, Never Grow Up, Chan discussed the moment that he had booked himself a first-class plane ticket and bought an economy seat for his son.

The stuntman reportedly told his son, ‘You have no money now, so you sit here in economy’, but Jaycee was later able to be upgraded into a vacant first-class seat.

Discussing the lesson he was attempting to teach his child, he wrote: “You have me as a dad, but other people don’t. They have to fight their own battles. When you get to sit in first class, because of your own hard work, then that’s success.”

Elsewhere in the book, Chan says that every flight the pair have flown on since sees Jaycee getting a free upgrade to a luxurious first-class seat.

In 2011, he reportedly told NewsAsia that he would prefer to donate his hard-earned dollar to charity than deliver it into the hands of his son.

Discussing the decision to withhold his reported $400 million net worth, Chan stated: "If he is capable, he can make his own money. If he is not, then he will just be wasting mine.”

Residing somewhat in his father’s shadow, Jaycee has neither made it big as a Hollywood actor nor as a musician.

In 2008, he voiced a Young Monkey in Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Furious Five and in 2009 he starred as Fei Xiaohu in Jingle Ma’s Mulan.

However, in 2014, Jaycee was arrested in China for the possession of marijuana. He was found guilty and spent six months in jail.

At the time of his sentencing, Chan said: “I would like to take this opportunity and say to Jaycee: you’ve done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences.

“I’m your dad and I’ll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together,” he concluded.
