Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's son Maddox has joined his siblings in the decision to drop his dad's late name in professional credits.
The 24-year-old actor and assistant director is one of the six children Jolie shares with Pitt.
The former celebrity couple confirmed their relationship publicly in 2006 after rumours of an affair Pitt had entertained with Jolie when he was still married to Friends star Jennifer Aniston. Jolie rejected the claims.
Jolie and Pitt, aka Brangelina, as the press nicknamed the couple, tied the knot in 2014 after a two-year engagement and announced their divorce in 2016 citing irreconcilable differences.

The Tomb Raider: Lara Croft star adopted son Maddox in Cambodia in 2002. At the time she was still married to second husband, Fargo star Billy Bob Thornton.
Pitt adopted both Maddox and Jolie's adopted daughter Zahara in 2006, and their surname was legally changed from Jolie to Jolie-Pitt.

In 2022, Jolie accused Pitt of abuse in the context of a lawsuit over their French winery. Jolie claims Pitt grabbed her by the head, shook her and pushed her against a bathroom wall. He is then accused of choking one of his children and striking another in the face.
The FBI investigated the incident at the time, but decided not to press charges.
Pitt's lawyer Anne Kiley said in a statement at the time: "Brad has owned everything he’s responsible for from day one - unlike the other side - but he’s not going to own anything he didn’t do.
"He has been on the receiving end of every type of personal attack and misrepresentation.

"Thankfully, the various public authorities the other side has tried to use against him over the past six years have made their own independent decisions."
Now, Maddox has become the first of the couple's three sons to drop Pitt from his last name, with daughters Zahara, Shiloh, and Vivienne all shedding their dad's name in recent years. The ex-couple also shares Pax, 22, and Knox, 17.
Maddox's decision to leave out his father's last name became apparent when he was listed as Maddox Jolie in production notes for Angelina Jolie's latest film Couture, presented at Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025.
Now the film has made it to French cinemas, Maddox's name has again been listed simply as Maddox Jolie.

Maddox served as an assistant director on Jolie's movie, in which she stars as Maxine Walker, an American film director diagnosed with breast cancer as she arrives in France to create editorial content for a fictional Paris fashion show.
This marks a change from when Maddox worked on Jolie's 2024 movie Maria, a biopic on Maria Callas directed by Pablo Larraín and written by Peaky Blinders' Steven Knight.
Maddox worked as a production assistant on the Oscar-nominated movie and was listed as Maddox Jolie-Pitt in the credits. As Hello! reports, it is unclear whether Maddox has legally changed his name.
Angelina Jolie will next be seen in comedy Anxious People as part of a stacked cast, including The White Lotus' Aimee Lou Wood and Shrinking star Jason Segel, as well as Carol Kane, Stephanie Allynne, Joanna Scanlan, Lennie James, and Jessica Gunning. The upcoming film is an adaptation of the 2019 novel of the same name by Fredrik Backman.
