A woman became fearful for her safety after making a shocking discovery when she heard crying coming from inside her home.

Virginia woman Joette Breeden was ready to relax and get some rest upon returning to her home after attending a family function, only to face a disturbing reality on March 27, just before 10 p.m.

The terrifying discovery resulted in Breeden fleeing her home and getting back into her car before calling the police.

She had heard crying inside her home and certainly wasn’t expecting it.

Breeden initially thought it could be the TV only to discover that there was a stranger inside her home and he was covered in blood.

He was sitting on her couch, and it was when she realized this that she left her home and alerted the authorities.

Speaking to Fox 5, Breeden said she didn’t see the person at first but simply heard a man crying.

She said: “When I entered the house, I could hear what sounded to me like a man crying and at first I thought I had left the TV on but then I looked and the TV was off and the lights were still off.

“I could see someone on the sofa, so I just turned around and ran back out of the house jumped in my car and called 911.”

She also noted that she had noticed her car port door was open when she arrived home.

Jeffrey Long, a spokesman for the Fauquier County Sheriff's office also gave insight into the incident and said it was clear that the man had ‘obvious trauma to his body and neck’.

He added: “They rendered first aid immediately; the house did not appear to be disheveled and again the woman did not know who the gentlemen was, reportedly.

“So, they rendered first aid and called EMS.”

Authorities eventually transported the man to the Winchester Medical Center, however, he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been made public and it is not clear what manner of injuries he had sustained.

The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident and is looking into whether the deceased man was a victim of a crime.

In a press release they said: “Anyone with information related to this incident, or who may have been in the area last night and seen suspicious activity, is asked to call CID detectives at 540-422-8650.”
