A person has died and multiple others injured after a gunman opened fire at a wedding venue this weekend.

The man burst into the nuptials at the Sky Meadow Country Club in New Hampshire, before opening fire on the room at around 7.30pm on Saturday evening (September 20).

The shooting continued until one guest hit the gunman over the head with a chair, witnesses claimed to WHDH 7 News.

Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke said one person had been killed in the incident, while others were injured and hospitalized.

The statement read: "This evening officers responded to 911 calls from the Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua for reports of gunshots.

"From investigation, a single adult male entered the club and fired several gunshots. One adult male was shot and killed, and several other people were wounded."

Meanwhile, authorities said on X: “Video surveillance has confirmed there was only one shooter and they are currently being detained.

“The scene is still an active investigation but there is no further danger to the public.”

Witnesses claim that alongside the wedding guests, the country club was also open to diners eating at its restaurant.

Sophie Flabouris, who was attending the wedding, told WHDH 7 News that guests began to run after shots were heard.

“Pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, and then, ‘Gun, run’ and people started screaming and running,” she said.

“Some people ran out the door. Some people ran into the kitchen. People ran all different directions.”

Meanwhile, Tom Bartelson, who was also at the club, added: "Getting together for a dance for the bride and groom and then all chaos went off.

"We heard about six shots and everybody ducked for cover and next thing you know we're rushed into safe spots and things like that.

"We were trying to keep family members safe. Keep everybody down and try to find safe spots."

The country club hosts a wide range of events, including weddings.

New Hampshire Representative Maggie Goodlander said her 'heart is with the victims'.

“I’m closely monitoring the tragic reports of a shooting tonight at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua,” she said.

“My heart is with the victims, their families, and the entire Nashua community as we await more information.”

Meanwhile, New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen added: “My team and I are closely monitoring reports of the horrific tragedy at Sky Meadow Country Club tonight. Billy and I are praying for those injured. There is no place in our state for this type of senseless violence.”
