Expert urges people to never sleep with fan on and explains how it could impact your health

I know it might be tempting, but don't do it!

A sleep expert has given some pretty convincing reasons why you shouldn’t sleep with the fan on, despite dealing with hot weather.

When the temperatures start to rise up during these summer months, trying to sleep can actually turn into quite the nightmare.

A lot of people decide to go nude or sleep with the window open - but those actions can come with their own issues.

However, a sleep expert has pointed out why sleeping with a fan on in might not actually be the best idea for your health.

In fact, they pointed out that when you wake up, you might feeling worse than you normally do.

Sleep expert Martin Seeley, the CEO of Mattress Next Day, broke down exactly why even in the hottest weather, you should choose to keep the fan off.

He warned: "So, if you find that you are suffering from excessive sneezing, watery eyes, a runny nose, itchy throats and even breathing difficulties make sure that there is no dust on the blades of your electric fan.

He pointed out that the fans can often set off allergies, asthma flare ups and cause a whole ‘devils mix’ of things in the air, that could include dust mites, mold spores, pollen, and other nasty particles.

He also highlighted that spending hours in the breath of an overworked fan can leave your nasal passages dry as can be.

Seeley added that this essentially triggers your body’s hydration SOS and gets it to ramp up the mucus production and this can have unpleasant results. This can include ‘a headache, stuffy nose and even a sinus headache’ but this can be addressed by drinking plenty of water.

He added that, in general after a hot nights sleep, it can be beneficial to to drink water anyway.

He advised: "This is also recommended for those that have suffered from a poor night's sleep due to the heat, as even mild dehydration can cause you to feel even more drowsy and tired."

And on top of this, there are also other health risks that can potentially cause stiffness in the muscles.

He explained: "If you have any pre-existing muscle pains, perhaps from working out or from improper posture whilst working at a desk, you should refrain from directing the electric fan on this area throughout the night.”

Who knew something that you thought was going to keep you cool could cause so many issues?
