A man who has eaten an astounding amount of Big Macs over his lifetime has revealed what impact his unconventional diet has had on his health.

Since 1999, 71-year-old Donald Gorske has held the title of most Big Mac burgers eaten in a lifetime.

As of last year, Donald has eaten a total of 34,128 Big Macs — 728 of which were consumed in 2023 alone.

Wit this in mind, Donald, who hails from Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, is one of the Guinness World Record's longest standing record-holders.

He ate his first Big Mac in 1972 and, from that moment, he knew that he'd eat many, many more.

"I threw the cartons in the back seat and started counting them from day one," he recalled to Guinness World Records.

At the peak of his burger-eating antics, Donald would eat as many as nine (yes, nine) in a day. This number has since dropped to two: one for lunch and one for dinner.

Despite his unhealthy diet, Donald says his health hasn't been negatively impacted.

To try be 'healthy', as such, he forgoes fries with his Big Mac orders and walks six miles a day.

"Many people thought I’d be dead by now but instead I’ve been a record holder for my 24th year," he said last year. "One of Guinness World Records’ longer-running record holders, so that’s pretty cool to me."

But Donald is an anomaly when it comes to excessive fast food consumption, as health experts have long warned that people just keep their junk food intake to a minimum.

In fact, a surgeon dubbed fast food as something that is 'actively poisoning' people.

Cardiac surgeon Dr Jeremy London warned: "Most of what's available in fast food chains is 'edible food product', it's not even real food."

And cardiologist Lauren Baldwin echoed similar sentiments and said that fast food is one of six products that people should avoid if they want to prevent developing heart disease.

"The key is to avoid having these foods as a regular part of your diet," she said.

"Like some other foods on this list, they are high in sodium. But even worse is that many fast-food restaurants are still using trans fats."

Baldwin continued: "These are the least healthy fats you can eat, since they raise your bad cholesterol levels, while also lowering your good cholesterol levels.

"One of the reasons these fats continue to be used – particularly with fried foods – is that they have a longer shelf life."
