Elon Musk Addresses Johnny Depp And Amber Heard Defamation Trial For The First Time

The SpaceX and Tesla CEO was linked to Heard after she split from husband Depp and he split from his wife Talulah Riley

Elon Musk has shared his thoughts on the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial for the first time.

Depp is seeking $50 million in damages from Heard in relation to an op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018; closing arguments for the trial between Depp and his ex-wife were heard yesterday.

Musk had previously been mentioned in the high-profile trial after Depp accused the Tesla founder of having an affair with Heard while they were still married.

After avoiding the witness stand himself, despite rumours he would be called to testify, Elon Musk has now taken to Twitter to make his feelings known.

The SpaceX and Tesla CEO was linked to Heard after she split from husband Depp and he split from his wife Talulah Riley. Though the exact timeframe isn't confirmed, Musk and Heard are believed to have dated for around a year, up until August 2017.

Musk and actor James Franco were both initially believed to be witnesses who would testify in the long-running trial, though it was later confirmed neither of them would take the stand.

Now, responding to a tweet from podcast host and MIT scientist Lex Fridman, who shared his own takeaways from the highly-publicised trial, the world's richest man shared a few thoughts on the matter, since Heard and Depp's legal teams both rested their cases and the jury adjourned to deliberate.

Fridman tweeted: "My takeaways from Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard trial:

"1. Fame is one hell of a drug (for some).

"2. Psychiatrists & lawyers come in drastically varying levels of skill.

"3. Lying to millions of people is something humans are capable of.

"4. Love can be messy.

"5. Mega pint of wine."

In contrast to his often jokey and meme-filled twitterings, Musk earnestly wrote in response: "I hope they both move on. At their best, they are each incredible."

"I do hope we start thinking of people by who they are at their best not their worst," Fridman responded in turn.

During the trial, Heard said she met Musk at the Met Gala after Depp 'stood her up'.

The Aquaman star told the Virginia court she attended the Met Gala in 2016 and started chatting to the tech billionaire. She claimed Depp wasn't communicating with her at the time, so she wasn't able to work out how they were supposed to attend the event as a couple.

"Johnny missed a fitting, because it was happening around the date of my birthday party in Los Angeles, but we were planning on going together as Ralph Lauren's guests," Heard said in court.

"So I ended up going by myself. I sat next to an empty place setting for Johnny that they cleared as soon as we realised he effectively stood me up on the red carpet."

However, Elon Musk was also on the red carpet, and the pair apparently hit it off. "I didn't recognise [Musk] until we started talking and he reminded me we had met once before," she explained.

"He seemed like a real gentleman. He was really nice. He sat at a nearby table and we got to speaking that night and eventually became friends."

Musk's team has said nothing romantic happened between the pair that night but, according to Page Six, they remained friends until Heard’s divorce from Depp and Musk’s divorce from then-wife Talulah Riley were both finished in 2016.
