Don’t they say revenge is dish best served cold? Well, one woman had a unique way of serving up her frustration when she outed her partner’s alleged infidelity in a local Australian newspaper.

A gentleman simply known as ‘Steve’, faced the wrath of his ex Jenny when she exposed his 'wandering eye' by taking out a full-page ad in the independent Mackay and Whitsunday Life newspaper, apparently using his credit card.

Branding him a ‘filthy cheater’, the newspaper ad read: “Dear Steve, I hope you’re happy with her.

“Now the whole town will know what a filthy cheater you are. From Jenny. PS. I bought this ad using your credit card.”

The unexpected ad created understandably created much chatter among locals so much so the newspaper’s editor was forced to post a response online.

They wrote in a post that was shared on Friday (12 August): "We have been inundated with dozens of messages this morning about the Advert on Page 4 of Mackay Life - as there’s too many to reply to, we would like to address it here.

"1. We do NOT know who Steve is, but apparently he’s been very, very bad.

"2. We won’t be revealing any details about Jenny."

Although Jenny claimed that her former flame had unknowingly paid for the ad on his credit card, the publication said that they have not charged ‘Steve’.

In light of Jenny’s public airing of their dirty laundry, one reader on social media about the furore: "Jenny sounds like someone I want to be friends with. Never trust a Steve."

“Not all heroines wear capes. Jenny is my new favourite person,” said another.

A third wrote: "Jenny be a savage!!! I like her style lol."

A fourth joked: "Charge the card and make it double".

While another remarked that they wished they had done something similar, writing: "Oh I wish I’d done that when my husband left me for another woman."

However, not everyone was convinced about the validity of Jenny’s claims, with some readers alleging that the former couple didn’t exist at all.

They claimed the ad was a very marketing trick by the team at Mackay and Whitsunday Life newspaper.

One alleged: "This has PR stunt written all over it."

"Good way of getting more likes and readers to your page," another posted.
