Frank Ocean 'has cost Coachella millions' after dropping out of festival

The singer was forced to pull out of his second set at Coachella after injuring his ankle

Frank Ocean has reportedly cost Coachella 'millions of dollars' after pulling out of his second show at the festival.

The 'Novacane' singer was due to perform another set tomorrow (23 April), but had to cancel at the last minute due to an injury to his ankle.

A representative for Ocean released a statement a couple of days ago confirming the sad news.

“Frank Ocean will not be performing at weekend 2 of Coachella," it read.

“After suffering an injury to his leg on festival grounds in the week leading up to weekend 1. Frank Ocean was unable to perform the intended show but was still intent on performing, and in 72 hours, the show was reworked out of necessity.

“On doctor’s advice, [Ocean] is not able to perform weekend 2 due to two fractures and a sprain in his left leg.”

Blink-182 are now due take his place in the line-up on Sunday evening.

Frank released his own statement, saying: “‘It was chaotic. There is some beauty in chaos. It isn’t what I intended to show but I did enjoy being out there and I’ll see you soon.’ — Frank Ocean.”

Unfortunately, this was after the production team behind the festival spent tons of money building an intricate 'ice pad' to be used during the concert, which is no longer needed.

An insider has now revealed that the cancellation will cost Coachella millions if they're unable to find another use for it.

According to a report in Billboard, the source claimed that 'festival promoter Goldenvoice is trying to make the best out of the millions of dollars spent on building a giant ice pad that was supposed to accommodate over 100 skaters during Ocean’s set last Sunday night but was scrapped at the last minute after the artist suffered an ankle injury'.

They continued: "The ice pad cannot be used as a public ice rink, the source says, but the Goldenvoice team is working out how to incorporate it into another yet-to-be-determined performance."

UNILAD has contacted Coachella for a comment.

But if Justin Bieber's reaction to Ocean's first set is anything to go by, maybe the crowds won't be missing much.

Fans were left outraged after Ocean's disappointing performance over the weekend (16 April).

Not only did he turn up late for the headline slot, to really add some salt in the wound, he then had to wrap up early due to the festival’s curfew.

Following the backlash, Bieber sent the singer a heartfelt message, praising his controversial set.

Posting a snap from the concert to Instagram, Bieber wrote: "I was blown away by Frank Ocean's Coachella performance."

He continued: "His artistry is simply unmatched, his style, his taste, his voice, his attention to detail... I was deeply moved."

However, while the words are nice, footage from the gig appears to show him nodding off during the concert.
