Rings of Power has nearly finished its first season and news has finally dropped around when exactly we can expect season two.

As we wait for the final episode of the Rings of Power to drop, we've heard some pretty sad news — season two could take a while.

Thankfully, production has already begun on the second season of the big-budget series, but showrunner Patrick McKay has let fans in on how long it'll take to film the new season, and you shouldn't hold your breath.

Arriving almost 20 years after the last flick in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the Rings of Power series is set thousands of years before the events in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings and marks the most expensive show in TV history, coming in at an eye-watering estimated $715 million.

Its official synopsis reads: "Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

"From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone."

Despite 'review-bombing' attacks on the series, where users flood a show with negative reviews in an attempt to make it less popular, season two is very much going ahead.

And the debate surrounding the first series seems to only be spurring them on more, as McKay told The Hollywood Reporter: "When we talk about the measure of success, what matters to us is if it’s entertaining enough that people are digging into it and debating it."

And, according to McKay, the series just gets better with every episode: "Some people had nice things to say about the pilot and second episode, or they didn’t have nice things to say, but I hope they stay for more episodes.

"The bar has to keep going up."

It might just take a little while to see where that bar ends up, as McKay explained, it might take "another couple of years" until we see series two.

Until then, we'll gladly re-watch the first series because, if you haven't already guessed, we're massive fans.
