A TV series doesn't have to be new for people to rave about it.

Thanks to the likes of Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+, decades-old series like Friends, Gilmore Girls and The Office are still being binge watched by fans across the globe on a daily basis.

While arguably, some of the best TV shows were debuted in the 90s and 00s, there's one show that people are still raving about as it recently marked seven years from its initial release.

The show - which is based on a Marvel comic of the same name - was first distributed by Netflix, but it has since moved to Disney+.

The streaming giant's license for the series came to an end after the second season and Disney went on to regain the rights to it.

Titled The Punisher, its 26-episodes were removed from Netflix in 2022.

In the series, The Bear star Jon Bernthal, 48, plays Frank Castle (AKA the Punisher himself) who is seeking revenge on the people who killed his family.

The first season dropped on Netflix in 2017, with the second series following suit in 2019.

The exact date of its release was November 17, meaning this week marked The Punisher's seventh anniversary. With this in mind, people took to social media to rave about the show.

One person said on Twitter that it is 'still one of [their] favorite Marvel series', while a second wrote: "It was fantastic and I’m hoping he gets to continue his series like daredevil with Disney+!"

"I’d love a new season of this," echoed a different fan.

Someone else raved: "Seven years later, The Punisher still holds up as one of Marvel's best!"

The series' Rotten Tomatoes score backs up people's reviews, with it boasting 79 percent on its Popcornmeter.

Elsewhere it has an overall score of 8.4/10 on IMDb.

While there's yet to be a third season of the well-loved show, Bernthal is returning as his character in another Marvel project.

The actor has been seen on the set of Daredevil: Born Again, Variety reported in April, which is set for release next year.

Back in 2021, Bernthal was asked if he thought his version of Punisher would work in the more family-friendly Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"That character, in particular, has real, real, real deep, deep meaning for me and resonance in me," he replied. "He’s really in my heart, man. He’s really in my bones. I’m enormously protective of that character."

He went on to say that he believes Frank Castle needs to maintain a level of 'darkness' to him.

Bernthal continued: "I think if there’s any let up on that character, you do a disservice to the character, to every iteration of the character, to every comic book that’s come before, and to all of the unbelievable fans of the character. This character means so much to people in the military.

"So like I said before, it’s not about whether you do the character; it’s about whether you can do it right, and I’m only interested in doing it right."
