The first trailer has been released for the Minecraft live-action movie starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa.

The film, which is expected to release early next year, is based on one of the most successful video games of all time.

The cast also includes Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks, and will be directed by Jared Hess.

This film will be one of the first Jack Black projects since the break-up of Tenacious D, prompted by his creative partner Kyle Gass making a risqué joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

Plans for an adaptation of the hit game have been publicly announced since 2014, with the movie having a long road to becoming a reality.

Here is the official trailer:

The trailer reveals that, rather than try and meet in the middle between reality and the game, the animation for the world will be styled in the same way as the game.

The reaction has been overwhelmingly negative, with some fans calling it 'atrocious' and even going so far as to beg that Warner Brothers not release the film.

Whilst Warner Brothers have previous for it with Coyote vs Acme and Batgirl, it's unlikely due to the film's massive $150 million budget.

One fan tweeted: "Turn this into a Tax write off instead of Coyote vs. Acme"

Another said: "DO NOT RELEASE THIS."

A third tweeted: "Who decided this needed to be live action? Fire them."

Particular reactions have focused on Jack Black as Steve, with many unconvinced by what they've seen so far.

One said: "I’m crying they deadass just said 'Here, just wear this blue shirt'".

Another tweeted: "So Jack Black playing Jack Black," while a third said: "All I can picture is them walking around a green screen with the studio lights, this really should have just been a completely animated feature."

Not everyone was so negative though, with one film fan writing: "Looks way, way better than I expected. I like that it doesn't suffer from the course of movies looking gray and orange all the time. It's pretty colorful."

Another simply said: "I'LL BE THERE."

When asked about his preparation before the movie, Black told Gamesradar: "Oh, you know I'm playing Minecraft all the time. Whenever I'm not filming I'm playing Minecraft because an actor prepares.

"I like to be in that Minecraft headspace. I like to know the rules, and I like to get little, like, things like, 'Oh, in the game you pickaxe like this. You hit stuff like that,' then I do that in the movie.

"I think the members of the Academy will appreciate my research later. I don't want to jinx it, but I'm pretty sure I'm getting an Oscar for this one."

The comedian may have been joking, but I think his chances of a Razzie in 2025 have just shot up.
