Amazon Prime users have been left disappointed after a thriller series they've described as 'absolutely brilliant' was canceled by the streamer after just eight episodes.
With multiple streaming services and millions of titles at our fingertips, it can be overwhelming sometimes to try and settle on just one thing to watch.
That's why when you do finally find a series you love, all you can do is hope to god it makes to past the first few episodes and into the realm of success that the big bosses at production companies require to keep going.

Unfortunately, no matter how loved a show might be by fans, this isn't always the case.
It happened with Mindhunter, it happened with The Residence, and it happened once again with a thriller series starring Chloë Grace Moretz.
Titled The Peripheral, this series arrived on Prime in 2022 and quickly earned praise from fans, with one writing: "Five episodes into The Peripheral on Amazon Prime. Totally hooked."
Another added: "I’m very late to The Peripheral (it’s on Amazon Prime), but what fantastic writing, acting, directing, photography, effects. And that’s just the pilot."

A third credited William Gibson, whose book inspired the series, as well as executive producer Jonathan Nolan as they commented: "Nolan and Gibson take it to the next level in prime videos new tv show “the peripheral“, highly recommended to anyone who loves action thrillers, SF (science fiction) and VR (virtual reality)."
With Moretz in the starring role, the thriller series takes place at a time in the future when technology has subtly altered society.
Moretz's character, Flynne, is doing her best to hold her family together when she discovers a connection to an alternate reality - but the revelations don't stop there, as she also uncovers a dark future of her own.

The initial success of the series led to it being renewed in February 2023, but sadly just a few months later, it was confirmed that there would be no more episodes.
According to an individual with knowledge of the situation who spoke to Variety, the decision to cancel was linked to writers' and actors' strikes taking place at the time.
Fans were left gutted by the news, especially those who have only just discovered the series.
After coming across The Peripheral just a few weeks ago, one fan commented: "Just finished season one of The Peripheral on Amazon Prime last night. AMAZING! Beautifully done! And season two... apparently isn't happening. WHHHHYYYYYY? This is why I usually don't trust shows enough to get into them."

Though season two isn't meant to be, you can still stream the first season of the show on Prime Video now.
