Netflix users have been left blown away by a mind-bending James McAvoy movie that shot up the 'Top 10' list after it arrived on the streaming service.

James McAvoy has been involved in all sorts of projects over the last few years, from horrors like IT: Chapter 2 to the 2022 comedy The Bubble.

But it's actually a 2016 movie that's caught fans' attention after it dropped on Netflix recently, telling the story of a man who has 23 different personalities.

Split follows McAvoy's character Kevin as he kidnaps three girls and holds them captive, all the while presenting them with the different voices and behaviors of his varying personalities.

He speaks with a doctor about his different personas, but ultimately it emerges that there's another personality living inside Kevin that's gone unknown for years: one known as The Beast.

The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy features in the Split alongside McAvoy, with Haley Lu Richardson, Jessica Sula and Betty Buckley rounding out the cast.

While the movie can be watched by itself, it actually forms part of the Unbreakable trilogy, also known as the Eastrail 17 7 Trilogy, which began in 2000 with Unbreakable, starring Bruce Willis.

After McAvoy joined the series in 2016, it came to a conclusion in 2019 with the movie Glass.

All three films were written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan, and viewers are now urging Netflix users to give Split a go if they haven't seen it already.

One viewer took to LADbible's Netflix Bangers Facebook group to share news of the movie's arrival on the streaming service, noting that it quickly shot to the Number 2 spot on Netflix's 'Top 10' movies.

Viewers have praised McAvoy's performance in the movie.

"How McAvoy didn’t win an Award for his performance of multiple characters in Split. I’ll never know," one fan commented after watching the movie, while another added: "Such an amazing movie. Loved it."

"Top, top film. Incredible performance from McAvoy," wrote a third.

Another commented: "Put this on because of boredom and so glad I did. Was a great movie."

The beauty of Split being part of a trilogy means that if you're a fan of the story, you can go back and watch the whole thing from the start.

Willis is joined by Samuel L. Jackson in the first instalment of the series, and the pair both return to join McAvoy in the final movie, in which all of their characters are being detained in a psychiatric facility.

You can stream Split on Netflix now.
