We might have left spooky season behind, but that doesn't mean you can't still switch on a gripping psychological Netflix show - especially when it's a mini-series you can binge in one weekend.
With a star-studded cast featuring the likes of Claire Danes, Matthew Rhys and Brittany Snow, there are just eight episodes in the thriller that released on Netflix in November and quickly worked its way to the number one spot on the streamer's top 10 list.
Danes takes on the leading role in the series, titled The Beast In Me, as the character of Aggie Wiggs, an author who is grieving the loss of her son.
As she seeks to pull herself out of her grief, the mom finds new purpose when she learns about the disappearance of her neighbor, Nina Jarvis (Snow), and the suspicious behavior of her husband, Nile (Rhys).

Viewers have described the series as being among their 'favorite' on Netflix this year, with people recommending the show when one Netflix user on LADbible's Netflix Bangers Facebook page asked for a new show to binge-watch.
Over on X, formerly Twitter, one fan added: "Just finished up The Beast In Me on Netflix. My only complaint is that it’s over, and I have to go around searching for something else to watch. Uggh why can’t all shows be this great?"
Howard Gordon, the showrunner of The Beast In Me, explained to Netflix's Tudum that Aggie's grief forms an emotional center for the show, the finale of which has been described on X as a 'rollercoaster'.

Gordon said: “Life is loss, and loss as a theme is something that is catnip, I think, to a writer. One of the subversive pleasures of being a writer is you get to work through these fears and horrors on the page or on the screen.”
Meanwhile, Danes explained exactly why her character becomes so obsessed with Nile and the mystery surrounding him.
She said: “For whatever reason, this project gives her some kind of reason to be and think again. He’s this unlikely catalyst and muse, and she’s just so relieved to finally have access to her creative self again that she kind of can’t help it."

Rhys added that Aggie's story isn't all that unusual, making the concept of the show even more gripping.
“The line between us all is relatively thin,” he told Tudum. “This could be you; you lose your son, you could be driven to doing this. Any number of external factors that you have no control over could lead you to these things.”
The Beast in Me is now streaming on Netflix.
