Movie fans are saying that a new film released on Netflix is the 'best original film' they have seen.

The hotly anticipated new horror film dropped recently on Netflix, with viewers already hailing it as a 'masterpiece'.

Del Toro is known for his horror films featuring incredible use of prosthetics and make-up, as well as historical settings and fairy tales.

Perhaps Del Toro's most famous film is Pan's Labyrinth which is set in Franco's Spain and sees the girl Ofelia moving to a military outpost with her mother and new stepfather, a fascist officer for Franco's regime.

Pan's Labyrinth balances Ofelia's journey with the faun Pan, who tells her she is the reincarnation of the princess of the underworld, with the struggle of democratic forces against the fascists, asking the question of who is the greater monster - the creatures Ofelia encounters, or the people surrounding her in the real world?

Del Toro's latest release reimagines a classic of gothic horror.

This is of course Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - one of the earliest examples of a gothic horror novel.

Mary Shelley started writing Frankenstein when she was just 18 years old as a bet with the poets Lord Byron and Percy Shelley over who could write the best horror story.

The books sees the kind-natured, intelligent, and innocent creature given life by scientist Victor Frankenstein driven to vengeance and murder by people's repeated abuse and rejection of him over his ugly appearance.

Frankenstein has been adapted into films numerous times, though the movies have sometimes moved away from the novel's original idea of the Creature as an innocent who is driven to despair by the world's treatment of him, and instead characterise him as more of a straightforward monster.

Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth have starring roles in the new movie, which is already garnering praise on social media for remaining more faithful to the book.

One viewer wrote: “Finally, after a bunch of okay, mediocre, and awful adaptations of Mary Shelley’s classic, Guillermo del Toro gets to have his vision fully realized. This is one of the most faithful and breathtaking versions ever made.”

The reviewer went on to praise the movie's production, adding: “The visuals are phenomenal, the acting is outstanding all around — though Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi stand out. The writing and direction are perfect. The music is haunting, and the cinematography is some of the best of the year.”

Another wrote: "Every movie by Guillermo del Toro is the best.”

Meanwhile a third said: “It’s del Toro, the creatures are going to look awesome.”
