“People get so upset when I say that. Because I’m like, ‘No, it’s a wonderful movie.’ Because it’s a childhood treasure to people. But I am terrible in it.”

Ricci was just 13 years old when she played the role of Kat in the movie, which was based on the Harvey Comics cartoon Casper the Friendly Ghost.

Ricci, now 42, recalled in the interview that she watched Casper with her eight-year-old son Freddie Heerdegen, having been reminded of the ‘difficulties’ she faced during her teen years.

“I was 13, there was a lot going on in my life,” Ricci admitted of the time she filmed her iconic childhood role.

"Everything was very difficult. I was just always annoyed, and I just don’t think I tried very hard, to tell you the truth.

“Embarrassingly, I have to say, I don’t think I tried as hard as maybe I should have.

“Not a lot of commitment. It took me a long time to parent myself into becoming a functional adult."

Ricci landed the role in Casper following her huge success as Wednesday Addams in the Addams Family franchise, during the 1991 and 1993 movies.

Now, You star Jenna Ortega is set to step into Ricci’s shoes as the titular goth character in the upcoming Netflix series.

Ricci spoke to Variety in support of the rising co-star: “Jenn is incredible. It’s such a great modern take on Wednesday.

“It’s so true tonally to the heart and soul of [the original], but it’s then it’s incredibly modern and it’s great. I loved working with Tim [Burton].”

Dubbed as a ‘twisted new series from the mind of Tim Burton’, Wednesday follows the young character as she attends Nevermore Academy, balancing her studies with a range of mysterious events.

The synopsis reads: “The series is a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

“Wednesday's attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorised the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago - all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.”
