Barbie Ferreira says she left Euphoria because she was done ‘playing the fat best friend’

She also shut down the chatter that she had a massive falling-out with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson.

Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira has opened up about why she left the Emmy-winning HBO series.

The actoe dropped a bombshell for fans in August last year when she revealed she would not rejoin the hit show as Kat Hernandez for season three.

Her departure fanned the rumor mill big-time.

There were reports that she was in the midst of a feud with Euphoria creator Sam Levinson during the show's second season over Kat's direction and story arc.

Another serving of piping hot tea claimed Ferreira had walked off set after she and Levinson had come to verbal blows while shooting.

In the wide-ranging discussion about all things Kat Hernandez, the 26-year-old actor chatted on Dax Shepard's podcast Armchair Expert about her character's departure in season two.

She revealed her exit was a 'mutual decision' with the show's creators because her character's storyline had run out of momentum.

"I don’t think there was a place for [Kat] to go. I think there were places she could have gone. I just don’t think it would have fit into the show," Ferreira said.

"I don’t know if it was going to do her justice, and I think both parties knew that. I really wanted to be able to not be the fat best friend. I don’t want to play that, and I think they didn’t want that either."

She went on to add that season two felt like a struggle to continue on as her character, for both her and the writers.

"I feel like with season two and certain parts of it, I felt it was a kind of a struggle for both parties,” she said.

"Sam writes for, like, things that he relates to. I don’t think he relates to Kat."

She also addressed rumors about her exit head-on, telling Shepard what really went down.

"I kind of got sucked into this drama that I never asked to be in and that I’ve never talked about. I’m of the mindset that if it doesn’t exist I’m not going to address it, because then I’m adding fuel to it," she said.

Ferreira added: "It’s taken on a life of its own. Don’t believe everything you read."

She then addressed the myth that she stormed off set, telling Armchair Expert's listeners: "I actually did not walk off set. I did sprain my ankle once and had to go get an X-ray."

She then wondered out loud: "Maybe that’s what they mean?"

But, at the end of the day, Hernandez said she's in a good place after leaving Euphoria... despite what some may think.

"When people ask me about season two, it’s usually they come at me with, like, I was some sort of victim," she said.

"I’m always like, ‘No, it’s okay, promise. It’s good'."
