Will Smith makes awkward joke about getting back on social media after Chris Rock apology

Will Smith might be getting back on social media more often after he made an awkward joke.

Will Smith has made an awkward joke about getting back onto social media as the actor made his first social media post in almost a month.

Since the infamous incident involving him slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars, Will Smith has been understandably quiet on social media.

Since the slap he's only posted to apologise in the immediate aftermath and once last month to explain that he'd been doing 'a lot of thinking and personal work' over the last few months.

Now, however, Will Smith could be thinking more about stepping back onto social media as he put up a joke video featuring gorillas.

In the video, captioned 'me trying to get back on social', a baby gorilla keeps poking an adult and running away as it keeps swiping at them and won't let them get close.

It's his first post on social media site Instagram, where the actor regularly posted images of himself and his family every few days before the slap.

A lot of people took this video to mean the Oscar winning actor was going to come back in from the cold and start posting more regularly again on social media.

Many wrote 'welcome back' to the star, while others said they 'love and miss' him being in the spotlight.

Plenty commented about how much they loved the actor and wanted to stress that they still did after the controversial slap.

Meanwhile, some struck a forgiving tone and told him 'we all make mistakes', reassuring the star he was welcome back on the platform.

Others said he was 'trying to sneak back in with a joke', while some said he should just get back on social media properly and switch the comments off to ensure his peace of mind.

Smith has apologised and made a direct apology to Chris Rock in particular, he's been honest and open with people's questions about the infamous incident.

While people aren't going to forget that he's the guy who got up on stage at the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock, it's not hard to think he's been away long enough that if he wants to get back on social media he should be able to.

Smith's friend Kevin Hart said the actor is 'in a better place' now since the slap, and the King Richard star has said he's been working on himself a lot since the Oscars.
