Robert De Niro’s girlfriend Tiffany Chen suffered ‘complications’ after giving birth to their daughter

The pair have recently welcomed their baby daughter, marking De Niro's seventh child

Robert De Niro's partner suffered from complications while giving birth to her child, a new interview will soon reveal.

De Niro recently welcomed his seventh child at the age of 79 with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, a martial arts instructor.

Born on 26 April, the little girl - named Gia Virginia Chen De Niro - arrived weighing 8lb, 6oz.

The star of Taxi Driver and The Godfather Part 2 introduced his new daughter to the world during an interview with CBS Mornings, dropping the big news pretty casually while giving an interview promoting his new film About My Father.

The interviewer began by saying: "You have six kids...", however, in a surprising turn of events, the 79-year-old actor corrected them, saying: "Seven actually, I just had a baby."

That's one way to tell everyone!

While the full interview is yet to be aired, Gayle has teased some of the content in the interview.

She said: "I said 'Did you want a baby' and he goes, 'Yes, this baby is planned'. They both wanted this baby. They are over the moon."

Tiffany Chen is set to give her first interview since giving birth to her first child with De Niro, appearing on CBS Mornings speaking to Gayle King.

She is ready to talk about her own experience, including some of the complications she experienced while giving birth to her daughter.

In the interview, which will air tomorrow, she will go into more depth about a ‘a postpartum complication’ she had.

De Niro also recently revealed that his six other children are yet met their little sister, but said that 'they will', as well as clarifying that baby Gia had been 'planned', and was 'brought here by love'.

Speaking to ET today in Canada, De Niro talked about his own experiences of fatherhood, with the star saying: "I don’t think I’ve ever been a cool father. I’m ok. My kids disagree with me at times, they’re respectful.

"My daughter is 11 and she gives me grief sometimes and I argue with her and adore her. With my youngest now there will be more to come but that’s, you know – that’s what it is."

De Niro and his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, are parents to daughter Drena, 51, and son Raphael, 46.

He shares twin sons Julian and Aaron, 27, with his former girlfriend, model and actress Toukie Smith. He also has Elliot, 24, and daughter Helen Grace, 11, with ex-wife Grace Hightower.

The Hollywood star recently lost his 19-year-old grandson Leonardo, the son of his daughter Drena, with De Niro saying in a statement: "I’m deeply distressed by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo.

"We’re greatly appreciative of the condolences from everyone. We ask that we please be given privacy to grieve our loss of Leo."
