Robert De Niro, 79, reveals he's welcomed a seventh child

The actor revealed he'd become a father for the seventh time

Robert De Niro sat down for an interview to chat about his new movie and revealed that he'd become a father for the seventh time in his life.

Until recently the famous actor had six children by three different mothers, but he said in an interview that he just welcomed a new child into his family.

De Niro shares his oldest kids with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, adopting her daughter Drena, while the couple had son Raphael together.

With ex Toukie Smith he has sons Julian and Aaron via a surrogate, and from his marriage to Grace Hightower there is son Elliot and daughter Helen, born via a surrogate.

Now the De Niro family is getting larger as in a promotional interview for one of his films the actor corrected his interviewer on how many children he had.

He was giving ET Canada an interview for his upcoming movie About My Father when he made the revelation, as he was talking about 'being loving' with his children even though he sometimes had 'to be stern about stuff'.

He said: "I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But you just have no choice.

"And any parent, I think, would say the same thing. You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t."

The interviewer then started the next question by saying that De Niro had six children before the actor corrected her by saying 'seven actually'.

"I just had a baby," De Niro said, though he didn't reveal the identity of the child's mother.

The man some people consider to be the greatest actor in the world said he doesn't see himself as a 'cool dad' as he spoke about how his kids are 'respectful' even if having children 'gives me grief sometimes'.

He said he was expecting 'more to come' in that vein now he's got a seventh child.

De Niro has previously said that it was 'scary' raising biracial children in the US - his six eldest children are known to be biracial.

In the wake of George Floyd being killed by police, De Niro spoke out to say that officers who don't help in their community 'shouldn't be there' and that in conversations with his children about race he realised there were things 'even I take for granted'.
