Several celebrities have been applauded for breaking one particular Met Gala rule.

The annual event, which sees some of Hollywood's most famous faces walk the red carpet while dressed up to the nines, was held on Monday (May 6).

Taking place at New York City's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala acts as a fundraiser for the museum’s Costume Institute.

From Kim Kardashian's controversial outfit and Doja Cat's wet T-shirt look to Camila Cabello's ice block and AI pics of Katy Perry, there have been a lot of talking points from this year's event.

However, after walking the red carpet, many stars broke a rule that was implemented by Vogue's Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour in 2015.

"The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala," read a notice from Wintour, per The Independent.

Actor Ayo Edebiri took to her Instagram Story to share a selfie. The snap featured musician Troye Sivan and her Bottoms co-stars, Nicholas Galitzine, Kaia Gerber, and Rachel Sennott.

The selfie offered fans a unique insight into the Met Gala as it showed off the stage inside the museum.

Cardi B also broke the no social media protocol as she shared a video of herself at her table in the event to her Instagram Story.

In one video she waved and smiled at the camera, while another saw her film basketball star Angel Reese as they were sitting next to each other.

“Say happy birthday to my one and only,” the rapper captioned the video.

The Met Gala happened to fall on Reese’s 22nd birthday.

Lizzo was another famous face who took to social media during the Met Gala as she shared a video from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s bathroom on TikTok.

"Met bathroom," the singer wrote in the caption as she danced around with none other than Uma Thurman and Stella McCartney.

Fans were quick to flock to the comments of Lizzo's post, with one writing: "Breaking a rule but you slayed by doing so."

Another added: "I need more of Met bathroom."

While a third commented: "I'm obsessed."

And someone else simply wrote: "Iconic."

There are a number of other rules attendees have to keep in mind during the Met Gala:

You have to be a certain age to attend

If you are under 18, then tough luck, you aren't coming in.

This was first enforced back in 2018, with that year's theme being 'Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination'.

A Met Gala spokesperson later confirmed the age restriction was introduced as 'it's not an appropriate event for people under 18'.

Smoking is not prohibited

No smoking is allowed at the Met Gala.

This came after the likes of Bella Hadid, Dakota Johnson, and Marc Jacobs were pictured smoking in the bathrooms at the 2017 event, with guests the following year reminded that it's 'illegal to smoke in the museum'.

It should be noted that smoking indoors in New York City has been banned since 2003, and prior invitations to the event have reiterated this.

Certain foods are banned

Some foods are banned from the event, according to the New York Post, such as parsley, to avoid it getting stuck in anyone's teeth before photos.

Who thought of that?!

Onion and garlic are reportedly also banned in order to prevent bad breath, and other dishes which could easily spill onto dresses and whatnot.

There's a strict seating plan

If you get to the event and aren't a fan of who you've been sat next to, there’s nothing you can do about it!

Seating arrangements are strictly maintained, with a lot of 'power-brokering' in the planning beforehand.

"A lot of thought goes into who sits next to who, if they sat together last year, if they've sat next to each other at other events, so much goes into it, it's shocking," Sylvana Ward Durrett, director of special projects at Vogue, said in the 2016 documentary The First Monday in May.
