Kim Kardashian's Met Gala look has led to people taking to social media in concern.

Women should be able to wear whatever they want, when they want. However, as someone who has a young and impressionable fan base, Kim Kardashian has faced scrutiny over the years for how she presents herself and her look at the 2024 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City yesterday (6 May), was no exception.

From promoting weight-loss lollipops on her Instagram to being accused of photoshop, the Kardashian has previously sparked frustration among fans.

And last night, the 43-year-old stepped out on the Met Gala red carpet wearing a silver, John Galliano corset-style dress - an outfit which tied in with the carpet's 'Garden of Time' theme - and many people were left saying the same thing.

The dress is a floor-length silver number with a shawl-like wrap around top covering a corset-like silver strapless bodysuit, which leads into an extremely cinched metallic waist section. The rest of the bodysuit is then covered over by a floral, leafy, silver skirt and small train.

But why has some people's response to the dress been 'Hell NO'?

Well, the dress is stunning, but many social media users have spoken out in concern for just how cinched the waist area of the dress appears to be.

One X user said: "Kim Kardashian at the Met Gala with a snatched waist. It looks painful though, she can barely move."

"What is wrong with these celebrities?! Why!? Did she break her ribs?!" A second commented.

A third added: "She kind of looks like she's in pain."

However, another user simply wrote: "Met Gala 2024: Kim Kardashian’s cinched waist causes confusion == doesnt look uncomfortable or battling to breath ?? so what the hell is the problem ? ? ? JEALOSY ?? PROBABLY !"

But social media users' concerns aren't unfounded.

In its article about the consequences of corsetry, the Charleston Museum explains, while it's 'not usually deadly, wearing a tightly laced corset can be quite harmful to the wearer'.

It continues: "They can reduce lung capacity, cause shortness of breath and fainting, produce skin irritations, compress the ribs, weaken back and chest muscles and have even been known to cause organ deformity.

"Tight corsetry can also exacerbate lung conditions such as pneumonia, dangerously restrict digestion, cause constipation and can also worsen any existing issues within a woman’s reproductive system."

UNILAD has contacted Kim Kardashian's representatives for comment.
