Coachella facing $28,000 fine after Lana Del Rey broke golden rule

Lana Del Rey wouldn't be the first artist to have allegedly broken the Coachella golden rule

Despite Coachella feeling like a musical free for all where anything goes, breaking this golden rule can prove very expensive.

Coachella can be a wild time for fans and musicians alike with hundreds of thousands of people vibing out to their favorite artists together.

However, there are still rules that have to be observed and well... if you don’t it can cost you.

Allegedly singer Lana Del Rey is finding this out after concluding the festival on its second weekend.

According TMZ, the singer cost the festival an estimated $28,000 for not following the strict rules regarding her set.

Before you get worried, the rules aren’t about what songs she can and can’t perform but rather how long it is.

According to the outlet, the city of Indio charges Coachella a small fortune for every minute that it goes over curfew.

Speaking to TMZ, a representative for the City of Indio said the singer’s set went over by 13 minutes.

It doesn't actually doesn’t sound too bad but based on the arrangement the organizers have with the city, this can quickly prove to be a costly few minutes.

City officials have previously told the publication that as part of its agreement with Goldenvoice, the festival is charged a daily fine of $20,000 for the first five minutes past curfew, and an additional $1,000 every minute after that.

The singer's fans seemed unphazed by the news and have praised the star for giving an unforgettable performance at the festival.

She performed 19 songs, including a surprise performance from Camila Cabello who sang her new single, 'I LUV IT'.

The representative said this was the only fine from weekend two so overall not a bad situation for the organizers.

UNILAD has contacted Coachella organizers for comment.

Last year British DJ Calvin Harris caused a stir for going over time on his set and breaking curfew.

Harris was named as one of the event's biggest acts, as he rocked up the stage to take over the decks in front of a crowd buzzing with more than 100,000 people.

He did arrive 30 minutes late to the stage but made sure to give his fans an unforgettable performance to make up for it.

Though based on Harris’ praise for the experience and opportunity at Coachella, I doubt he minds very much.

He shared a video from one of the iconic moments from his performance and said he had always wanted to play at Coachella.
