Keira Knightley once admitted that there are a few Disney films she didn’t want her daughter growing up watching.
Raising a child is no easy feat and parents often take care to know exactly what kind of content they are consuming, be it on TV, YouTube or social media.
For celebs, it seems this rule still applies as actor Keira Knightley opened up about the films she doesn’t let her daughter watch.
Granted, this was back in 2018 so there is a chance that she has relaxed the rule or added more movies to the 'banned' list.

During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show (yes, we are going that far back), Knightley spoke about her daughter Edie, who is now ten years old.

When asked what films Edie is banned from watching, she surprisingly mentioned some Disney classics.
Knightley explained: “Cinderella is banned because [Cinderella] waits around for a rich guy to rescue her, don’t, rescue yourself, obviously.”

The crowd then applauded and the actor went on to reveal another 'banned' film - which actually 'annoyed' her because she enjoyed it quite a lot.
She added: "This is the one I am quite annoyed about because I really like the film, but The Little Mermaid.
“I mean, the songs are great but do not give your voice up for a man, hello.
“But the problem with The Little Mermaid is I love it, so that one is a little tricky but no I am keeping to it.”

Knightley then noted that her daughter is allowed to watch the Disney Pixar sequel to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, a film that DeGeneres starred in.
Despite Knightley’s justification for the bans, when the clip was shared on YouTube, many disagreed with the star.

One person commented: “Cinderella has way more agency than people give her credit for. She doesn’t wait around for a prince. The one time she defies her abusers, she happens to fall in love with a prince, and that happens to be her escape route. She never once dreamed for a prince.”

Another wrote: “So quick to jump into all the negative aspects of those movies, when they actually teach young people the value of compassion, generosity, resilience, and the meaning of standing one's ground.”
A third joked: “Hold up, didn't Cinderella run into the prince?? She wasn't actively waiting for him. Sis just wanted a night off.”
Someone else added: “Cinderella is not a bad or weak character. She is hardworking, brave, and kind, despite being abused and going through loss. She goes after her dreams. She is a beacon of compassion.
“Ariel is adventurous, daring, and a fighter. She brought two worlds at odds with each other together. These are great films for kids.”

Knightley has since welcomed another daughter - Delilah, who was born in 2019 - with her husband, James Righton.
